Default How long can reruns of long-running scripted TV shows stay in broadcast syndication?

How long can reruns of a long-running scripted broadcast TV show stay in broadcast syndication? I was wondering if there may be too many popular scripted TV shows who want to have their reruns on broadcast syndication for years to come (whether it still produces new episodes on its original network or after it permanently ceases production). Reruns of one scripted TV show may get moved to a different timeslot to make way for a reruns of a newer scripted TV show who has just reached the 100-original-episode minimum. After a few years, can a scripted TV show's reruns be removed from broadcast syndicstion altogether, and only limit their reruns to cable syndication?

Well, I don't see too many shows before the '90s on broadcast syndication anymore. I'd say 20 years seems to be the general cut-off. Seinfeld seems to be the oldest show left on broadcast syndication, at least here in the NYC area.

Coach reruns were running on our local Me-TV affiliate as of last year. It isn't anymore though. I know there aren't many 90's shows airing on my local channels. I know on that same channel they have Facts of Life and Star Trek: TNG now airing but that's from the 80's.

A couple Saturdays afternoons ago I flipped on the local CBS O&O station and saw an episode of Coach. It seemed so random. It never aired on the station on a regular basis, but their sister station the CW station aired it years ago.

My CW affiliate has been showing Sanford and Son since 2007 and The Jeffersons since 2011. It's also been showing Andy Griffith even longer than that. It seems quite common to find I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith, Perry Mason, MASH, The Cosby Show, Friends, and Everybody Loves Raymond in broadcast syndication somewhere, but most of the other shows from the 50s through the 90s seem hard to find in broadcast syndication.
