The fact that they were depending on them to get out of a hole and once they found out they were broke and the husband was unemployed, all they could do was PRETEND to care since they definitely had no money to give to them LOL

It was so obvious that they were putting on a act to make like they cared

Well Flo was the person who was going to ask for money, James didn't want her too. I wouldn't say that they were "fake" concern, it's sad to hear that anyone that you care about has lost their job.

He was mad because he didn't want them to look at him as a man who could not take care of his family and like a moocher. That is why James wasn't going to ask Edgar for the money. Florida was the one being hard headed because she knew that James did not want her to ask Edgar for any more money.
