He is not really a franchise changing player so all those people in Houston can relax LOL

He has played for 2 teams in the past 9 years and was only in the championship ONCE and lost

I had kind of joked that Howard would end up in Houston...

Texas has no state tax (California does). He's gonna see a huge difference in his take home pay

Someone did a study of NFL quarter back salaries, to see which QB brought home the most (net vs. gross). Turns out that, although Tony Romo ranks about the #6 spot in highest-paid quarterbacks, he actually brings home more money than any QB in the NFL, apparently because the guys ranked ahead of him in straight salary lose more of their money to state taxes.

I wasn't sure how much of an NBA history buff Howard was. When he went to the Lakers, I wondered if he wanted to add himself to the long line of great Laker centers (Mikan, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq). Doesn't look like it. Probably too much pressure on him. He's not good under pressure.

He does like living in L.A. and I also wondered if that might make him go with the Clippers.

Oh well.

Dwight doesn't know what he wants to do. He couldn't wait to get outta Orlando and he got a chance to play with Kobe who he wanted to play with. So now just because the Lakers have one bad season, he wants to leave. You don't leave a team just because they have one bad season. You would think he wants to be the Lakers leader since Kobe doesn't have much longer to play. He wants to win a championship now and he should know that winning championships is hard. Even if he doesn't win a championship, that doesn't mean that his career sucked because there's lots of good players who never won championships. It'll be interesting to see how long he stays with Houston because i don't believe he'll be there long. James Harden is the only good player on that team and it's gonna take more than him and Dwight to win some championships.

You forgot Miami

But yes, I know exactly what you mean. When you look around the NBA, fans in most cities figure "hey, it's great if we can make it to the finals at least once", and places like Golden State, Portland, Phoenix and Cleveland certainly don't have high expectations year in and year out. It's basically just the cities you mention.

In San Antonio, the players and coaches themselves expect to win, but I don't think the fans do. The Spurs gave their fans more than they could have expected this past season. Their fans just appreciate their Spurs for all they've done over the past 15 years or so.

You make some excellent points.

Howard actually has a decent shot at being a HOFer some day. Even though he's had no low-post game for most of his career, the lack of quality centers in the NBA has basically meant that he's been all-league and an all star several times by default.

As of now, he's a 7-time all star, he's finished in the top 7 in MVP voting 5x in the last 6 seasons, he's a 3 time DPOY winner, he's been all defensive (1st or 2nd team) 5x, and he's been all-NBA first team 5x.

That doesn't necessarily make him an automatic HOFer, but he's only 27 years old right now (turns 28 in December). He'll also finish very high on the list of career rebounders.

I can easily see him in the HOF some day if his career continues in a normal and fairly injury-free fashion.

There is in Miami for basketball now. There hasn't been in the past, it's just since they put the "big two plus one" together.

If you're talking football as well, Dallas pretty much has the most pressure. The Jets and Giants have a lot of pressure to win from the New York media.

Steeler fans expect a lot from their team, as do Patriot and Packer fans.
