Default Bravo to anybody affiliated with The Bob Newhart Show

Just finished watching all the eps of The Bob Newhart Show for the first time since the original run, and wanted to say what a complete joy it was.

From one of the early eps, when Bob and Emily agree to write down what bothers them about each other and as they come back from commercial Emily is up to about 28 on her list, to the final ep, when everybody's singing "Oklahoma" and Howard says, "I don't know the words, I never saw South Pacific", just tremendous comedy!

From the Carol and Jerry insult-fests to the "group" dynamics (how about Mr. Carlin in drag in the final ep, asking, "How can you leave this in good conscience?"?) to everything in between, and highlighted by the deadpan delivery of the brilliant Bob Newhart, this sitcom was a delight!

I can honestly say I had a long laugh-out-loud moment in EVERY episode, in addition to the material producing regular chuckles and constant smiles. Kudos to any members of the cast, the writers, the producers, everybody, who might read this! What a great show!

And for God's sake 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, please bite the financial bullet and put the last two seasons out on DVD!!!!

Thumbs up

I discovered the show through the first 4 seasons on DVD (and am totally with you that 20th Century Fox, Shout, SOMEONE needs to release the last 2 seasons already!!!). It is warm, funny, never mean (well, except for Carlin - heh). A great ensemble.

Plus, I can boast that Mr. Elliot Carlin is from my very own hometown - that is, his portrayer, Jack Riley. How's that for awesome?

That's fantastic! Way to go, Jack, and way to go Cleveland!

Was happy to read that the Carlin character was ranked 49th in TV Guide's List of the 50 Greatest TV Characters of All Time!

This series was part of my Saturday night CBS viewing, along with Mary Tyler Moore and The Carol Burnett Show. Two solid hours of great comedy. Also that was the night for Kung-Fu.

Mostly I remember the later seasons of The Bob Newhart Show as first-run, but I was sure to watch the earlier stuff when I had cable back in the 1990s. It was then that I encountered the original opening, with Bob in his hat (at least I hadn't remembered it).
