Default Stray animals

Did you ever bring home stray animals when you were a kid ?
I was always coming home with strays. I would be walking down a sidewalk and look back to see a cat following me, He would stop each time I stopped then start walking when I did. That pattern would continue till I got to my front door and the second I opened it he would race between my legs and enter as if he lived there. My mom would ask, " Where did that cat come from? " and I would say, " He followed me home, can he stay for lunch? "
Soon his owner would show up to get him and I would have to explain that I didn't kidnap him or coax him to come to my house that he came on his own free will. Dogs were more than happy to come to my house, all I had to do was pet them once and I became their best friend, except for a couple that came out of nowhere and bit me for no reason. Maybe they didn't like the shape of my head. I still see evidence of a stray cat or two that drop by late at night, paw prints on top of my truck, dead mice on the side of the house.I never see any stray dogs around here, the only dogs I see are the ones taking their humans for walks in the afternoon.

I always had a soft spot for stray animals and as a child I too would coax animals home, whether they had their own home or not, lol. A story often retold in my family was how I took some cold cuts from our fridge and used them to coax about three dogs to put in our cellar. I can still see my mother standing at the landing on the stairs in the cellar and asking me, "where these dogs came from, Janice?" lol. Funny stuff.

She had to return the pooches to the streets where I found them. This was back in the day when dogs and cats roamed the streets. My love for animals was huge and started when I was very young.

We have brought home strays, yeah. Best dog we ever had was Salem and we found her running scared in the streets with cars honking, and people hollering at her. Strays are good cause they're the most in need.

Those are both nice animal stories.

I'm sure there are a few that I don't recall at the moment, but I do remember my brother bringing home a turtle once when we were young.

I think most animal lovers start young. I brought home my share of strays--which sucked for my dad since he was majorly allergic to cats. I also started a dog washing business when I was 11 ($5 for any sized dog), but my mom put a stop to that when a very chubby chow cracked our laundry room sink.

The best cat I ever had was a stray. He was 1 or 2 when I found him in the bushes, and he made it to 17.

Me & my brother brought home several stray dogs when we were young. My dad always had a fit when he'd come home & see a new dog hanging around. My son however, has never brought a stray home but that's probably because we already had several cats & dogs. We're finally back down to just one cat & one dog for now.

We've had some stray cats. The mother of our current three kittys was a stray.

I always put " strays " into 3 categories.
1. Animals that snuck out of their house for a stroll.
2. Animals that got dumped because their owners didn't want them.
3. Animals that were born in the wild, never saw the inside of a house.

Animals of the 3rd category are kind of easy to identify, they are usually very scrawny looking and are most likely to hide or run away if you step towards them.

A beagle did follow me home once. He had a tag though so he wasn't a stray.
