With the aquisition of KG and Paul Pierce, the Nets look really strong. I think this is a quick fix for the Nets though since both players are in their upper 30's, but the Nets should be really good for a couple years. I'm guessing they'll be the second best team in the East. Here's their projected lineup.
Deron Williams Brook Lopez Joe Johnson Paul Pierce Kevin Garnett |

Nets are stupid for getting Garnett and Pierce because they will not win any championships soon. Garnett and Pierce need to retire and they should've retired with the Celtics. I know the Celtics fans aren't happy about them leaving. It'll be interesting to see how Jason Kidd does as a coach. I think he'll make a good coach because he knows a lot about basketball. I see he got former Nets coach Lawrence Frank on his coaching staff. He was just fired by Detroit this offseason. Detroit doesn't keep coaches long LOL. Joe Dumars has been hard to please. Now Detroit has Maurice Cheeks as their coach and i bet that won't last long.

Re: Jason Kidd as a coach. There's really no way to predict how good or bad someone will be who steps into a head coaching job immediately. Obviously, Kidd knows the game.
The dynamics will be interesting, because he's somewhat of a contemporary of guys like Garnett and Pierce. There is a bit of built in stature for a player of his accomplishments. He was a ten-time All-Star, a five-time All-NBA First Team member, and a nine-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. As far as stepping into a head coaching job without ever having been an assistant, he probably filled the role of an assistant for several years in the second half of his career... just without the suit and tie. It helps that he won a title as a player with Dallas in 2011. He also led the Nets to two finals appearances, although they were badly overmatched by the Lakers in 2002 and the Spurs in 2003. I took a look at the rosters of some of the teams Kidd played on during his 19 NBA seasons... I guess Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Dikembe Mutombo might be the only potential future HOFers he's ever played with. He had a lot of very average teammates, many of whom because better players by playing with Kidd. We'll just have to see how he reacts to being responsible for the wins and losses of the team. I think as long as he's decisive (and I think he will be), he will earn and keep the respect of his players, which is more than half the battle. |
