The Professor voted for Gilligan

Just watched "President Gilligan" and have come to the conclusion that the Professor must have voted for Gilligan.
Mr. Howell had 2 votes. Himself and Ginger.
The Skipper had 2 votes. Himself and Gilligan.
Giiligan had 3 votes. Mary Ann and Mrs. Howell which leaves the Professor with the deciding vote.

No, I think Gilligan Voted for himself - remember, first vote was for the Skipper, second for Howell, third for Skipper, fourth for Howell, then a write in vote for Gilligan and Mrs Howell admitted it was hers, then the sixth vote was also for Gilligan and Mary Ann said it was hers. Then the deciding vote was missing, and Gilligan said it was in his pocket and gave it to the Professor. That's when the Professor declared Gilligan the winner.

I think the tally was

Skipper voted for himself
Professor voted for Skipper

Howell voted for himself
Ginger voted for Howell

Mrs Howell voted for Gilligan
Maryann voted for Gilligan
Gilligan voted for himself

I didn't think Gilligan would have voted for himself. Seems out of character to me.

Maybe he did it because he didn't think he would win, a throw away vote, surprising he wouldn't vote for his buddy though

It was still fairly early in the series, production wise, so traits were still in development.
It seemed odd that whenever the Skipper or Mr. Howell got a vote, they'd place a blanket over the shivering Gilligan and he didn't react in a guilty fashion.

It makes sense to me that he'd vote for himself. The way the Skipper and Howell were trying to convince him to vote for them - he probably figured he'd vote for himself so he wouldn't get in trouble. And he figured he wouldn't win because he wasn't even running. He didn't expect Mary Ann and Mrs. Howell to vote for him too.

As far as traits being in development goes, I think the characters were much more realistic and consistent in Season 1. In the color episodes they become more like caricatures, so I don't think it seems out of character at all for him to vote for himself. He's trying to save his skin, as usual.

Interesting views. I didn't like the early shows as much as the later season 1 and colour episodes. I preferred the shows once the traits were established by actor, director and writer.

You are right that the first dozen or show episodes had a different feel to them. I kind of enjoyed the shows where they are first exploring and getting themselves situated on the island - building their huts and so forth - but I agree with you that the characterizations were better later on.
