Default Should they have gotten a stand-in to be Eunice at Budda's graduation?

I've always wondered, do you think it would have been good to have had Eunice at Bubba's graduation?

I know Carol was not on speaking terms with Vickie at that time, BUT somone could have put on the Eunice wig and they could have just shown the back of her head in the audience at the graduation, do you think that would have been better than have her not show up at all?

No, it would have been pointless IMO just to have a stand-in there and not even bother giving 'Eunice' any screen time. Let's face it, Eunice was such a strong character that she dominated all of the episodes she was in, and the audience wouldn't have bought it.

I think the producers were in a no-win situation with having or not having Eunice appear in that episode. By not having her appear in the flesh, some fans may be unhappy that she didn't even show for her son's graduation. If they did have her appear, even briefly, it would have had to be a stand-in for Carol Burnett and I think even more fans would have felt cheated. Carol WAS Eunice and no one else would be accepted. So overall, I think the show made the right decision; have another actress briefly imitate her voice on the phone but have her as a no-show for the graduation.

Couldn't have put it any better. Would they have had to find a fill-in for Harvey Korman as well? If "Eunice" was there, it only would have made sense for Ed to be present, too.

Well I just thought it MIGHT give the character Eunice some redeeming traits, b/c Mama's Family seems to really like to portray Eunice as a villain much more so than she originally was on the Carol Burnett Show.

As far as Harvey Korman, really I don't see way he HIMSELF couldn't have been on that episode, I mean he wasn't in any dispute with any of them... I don't think.

I was even thinking about that, do you think it would have been good to have, maybe just Ed show up and say something like Eunice is sick and couldn't make it or something like that.

This is just speculation on my part but since as we know, Burnett felt that VIcky's decision to go back to work for Carol's ex-husband smacked of disloyalty, Harvey Korman may have stayed away from the reboot of Mama's Family so as not to alienate Carol as well. I can't really think of any other reason Korman didn't participate in the syndicated seasons, especially since he was also one of the directors of the NBC shows.

I was thinking that Korman contributed in some ways to the synd. episodes but I could be wrong.

I've never known of Carol and Vicki to have a disagreement. Can someone clarify, and give some back-up to the argument?

Thanks..l

From what I understood, Carol was wanting to bring her show back and wanted Vickie to be a part of it again but Vickie had already dedicated to Mama's Family, and Carol felt she was being disloyal to her in some way.

I heard had that not have happened Eunice would have been in more episodes of Mama's Family.

That was part of the reason for Carol being a no-show but in Vicki's autobiography she mentions that their divorce was very bitter and as a result of Vicki returning to Mama's Family in 1986, Carol didn't speak to Vicki for five years until they reconciled after Hamilton passed away in 1991.

I take it Carol and Joe divorced sometime between the NBC run of MF and the start of the syndicated show. That's why Carol never appeared again after "Rashomama".

Hmmmm... I can understand Vicki being caught in the middle there. Such a shame...

Thanks for the information!
