Default Workplace Sitcoms

Family sitcoms have made a resurgence at the expense of workplace-set comedies. I guess it's fair since they were out of fashion for a while, and I support more family oriented programming. I hope we won't have to wait a long time before workplace-set sitcoms make a comeback. With The Office gone and NBC's change in direction I don't see Parks and Recreation lasting longer than two seasons at most. I hope i'm wrong though. The Crazy Ones looks good and I will be watching that. I hope Brooklyn Nine-Nine gets a shot at success but it seems like a NBC-esque (pre-2013) show and its in a difficult time slot, but I hope it succeeds.

Just some thoughts.

Well, The Mindy Project is a workplace comedy and it made it to a second season. But yeah, they were the "hot" thing for a few years after The Office made it big...now the trend is more in favor of workplace comedies and "hangout" comedies like New Girl & the like.

There are still workplace shows like "Franklin & Bash" and "Men at Work" on the cable channels too.

I hope that NBC likes the additional scripts ordered for Assistance (starring Krysten Ritter and Alfred Molina) and the Greg Daniels-produced Craig Robinson comedy (about a high-school music teacher, co-starring Jean Smart) and orders them to series.

I commend NBC for returning to family comedies but they shouldn't give up on workplace adult situation comedies. In NBC's heyday of the 80s they had Family Ties, Punky Brewster, ALF and The Cosby Show alongside the likes of Cheers and Night Court.

Cool

some of my Favorite sitcoms over the years have been a combination of workplace and family comedy. Shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Home Improvement etc.

Those are good. A few more, The Bob Newhart Show (1970's version), Back To You, Becker and Frasier (at least to an extent; scenes at the radio station). I would say the same goes for 3rd Rock From The Sun (the scences in Dr. Solomon's office and classroom.)

Don't forget "The Drew Carey Show" where Drew Carey works at the Winfred-Louder.

I'm not sure I agree with this statement. Aside from "Modern Family" and "The Middle" I can think of very few "family" sitcoms currently airing or that are considered "a hit".

I also think workplace sitcoms are still going strong, there are many on the air...
