Can anyone think of any TV theme songs, current or classic, which were rather wasted opportunities?
One is the theme song for "According to Jim." Only 12 seconds long. ~Ben |

I'm going to say, Raising Hope. There are many other newer shows that have very short themes.

The first one I can recall starting the trend was "Seinfeld". Around the same time "Friends" was on and had the longer traditional show opening and music and it made Seinfeld seem kind of jarring at the time.
Shows that had full theme songs have them cut from syndication - "King of Queens" is a good example. Most syndicated episodes of "Two and a Half Men" have some part of the theme cut. With increasing commercial time theme songs were obviously a place to cut some time. I still find it hard to watch shows the originally ran 25 minutes in a 20 minute slot. I have noticed several shows where lines don't make sense because a scene that was cut is referred to later. I remember TV Land shoehorning an episode of "Sanford and Son" that once ran around 25 minutes into 18 minutes - the show had an iconic theme song, but I'd rather miss the song than show content. |
