"Sesame Street" Introduces New Muppet Whose Dad is Incarcerated
"Sesame Street" Adds Muppet Whose Dad Is in Jail
Jun 19, 2013 by Liz Raftery As part of a new outreach program through Sesame Workshop, "Sesame Street" is introducing a new muppet guest character — a boy named Alex whose father is in jail. The program is called 'Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration' and aims to teach kids coping mechanisms to deal with feelings of anger and shame that stem from having a parent in prison, according to the Sesame Workshop website. Though Alex will not be a regular on "Sesame Street", his appearance encourages children to talk about their feelings with an adult and teaches young viewers the meaning of "incarceration." http://www.tvguide.com/News/Sesame-S...l-1066855.aspx |

I'm sorry but this is just hilarious. What's next, a crack baby puppet? Haha :-)

It's sad to me that people find this funny. I work in a Head Start program with low-income students and for many of the children, this is a reality. It's really heartbreaking to know that such a young child has to endure this. It affects their personality and behavior when they have such an unstable home life. I applaud Sesame Street for bringing up this topic.
