TV Disney's "Good Luck Charlie" to Say Goodbye

Disney's "Good Luck Charlie" to Say Goodbye
by Matt Webb Mitovich
6/11/13

Ready or not, here they go.

Disney Channel announced on Tuesday that "Good Luck Charlie" will bid the airwaves goodbye after this, its fourth season.

A statement from the cabler to our sister site Deadline reads:

It’s been our great pleasure to work with the extraordinary producers Phil Baker, Drew Vaupen and Dan Staley and the writers and crew of Good Luck Charlie.

We could not have dreamt of a better cast than Bridgit Mendler, Jason Dolley, Leigh-Allyn Baker, Bradley Steven Perry, Mia Talerico and Eric Allan Kramer (and even little Logan Moreau as Baby Toby!) and the many guest stars who make the series so special….

We look forward to the big finale episode the creative team is planning.

Well that sucks. This came out of the blue. It's one of the few family sitcoms still on TV.

Noooooooooooooooo

This is my favorite Disney Channel show and is a real throwback to the old family sitcoms. It reminded me of TGIF!

NOOO!!! I love this show and I was hoping it would stay around for at least a few more seasons! I wonder what brought this on because it's one of the best shows on TV (sitcom-wise), IMO! I completely agree with PrettyinPink55.

I find it strange that they would do this without any kind of warning since it's such a popular show!

Disney Channel just has a track record for pulling the plug on their popular shows after 100 episodes (before that, it was 65).

Has any Disney Show lasted more the four seasons? This isn't that surprising. Luckily, Girl Meets World will be coming soon!!

^^ "Hannah Montana" lasted for four seasons. "That's So Raven" lasted for four seasons. "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and its "On Deck" continuation lasted for a combined six seasons.

One of the few shows that my kids watch that I don't mind.

This news is kind of weird since the show is so well-liked and high rated. But at least it had a pretty good run.

Disney has had a lot of high rated shows (Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Wizards of Waverly Place, etc.), however none of them went past four seasons. I think Disney does this so they can continue to bring in new shows and keep things fresh.

i wonder if Disney signs the casts to 4-year contracts and is afraid of giving everyone raises if they renew a hit show, when they can just keep showing the repeats forever to good ratings at no extra cost...

I've heard of this rule but this is the first Disney Channel sitcom I've watched so I forgot. I do think it's stupid because the show is still popular and tv needs more shows like this. the networks have practically ignored the family audience in recent years.

EXACTLY!!! This show is a breath of fresh air!! I do enjoy the other Disney Channel sitcoms, but this show is different.

Nobody has a super power or a super talent or is a superhero or teen pop star or lives under extraordinary circumstances in any means. The show is realistic. The Duncans are everyday people with everday problems in everyday situations families and kids alike can relate to. It reminded me of the older Disney Channel shows Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens.
I hope that Girl Meets World can help fill the void GLC is going to leave.
