Default Anyone else hate Joy?

I think she's the weak link on this show, I never really cared for her. She's grumpy most all of the time and I can't think of any funny or memorable Joy moments. She has done alot of really objectionable things on the show.

-when she apologized to her mother for being mad at her when her mother scared off the man who was going to propose to her, saying "it wouldn't have worked out anyways." Um, way to have faith in your potential husband. How exactly would she have known that anyways? She should have been pissed because Owen never knew his father.

-Gave her baby up for adoption without even trying to raise it. She's lucky Owen wants anything to do with her at all. I think she's trying to make up for that by being an ultra-strict grandmother, what with her "no tv" for Wilbur and all that crap.

-when she broke up with that guy because he was a Trekkie. So what if he likes Star Trek, he was really nice, really cute and was a firefighter that rescued puppies. No wonder she has so many problems with men. I find Joy to be really shallow.

Blech. Hate her.

The entire show sucks in my opinion. I feel bad because I adore Betty White. However, I feel the show isn't good enough for Betty White. Betty was best in Golden Girls. And she was good with the bit parts on Mama's Family as Mama's snobby daughter Ellen.

I think all the characters (Joy, Victoria and Melanie) are pretty damn unlikeable. Stupid show.

I wish the writing on the show was better. You have three and a half (Valerie Bertinelli is the weak link, IMO) talented comediennes and they don't really give them an opportunity to do what they do best.

Yes, I know that this is "Golden Girls" for the 21st century, but Elka and Joy rehashing the Sophia/Blanche relationship was old by the end of the first season.

Wasn't her character a teenager when she had her baby? Uneducated teens raising babies is the dumbest idea ever!! That's one of the biggest reason that we have so many people in the US trapped into the welfare recipient life.

The son being put up for adoption was probably the best thing for him. He appears to be a very well adjusted man.

It's very inconsistent. Some episodes are really funny, others I don't even so much as smirk once the whole show.

I personally think Hot In Cleveland is a very dumb and unfunny show. I've never even laughed once during it. I like the other TVLand show Happily Divorced much better.

have you ever seen any of the Ladypants or Birthdates episodes? Now those are funny.

I do remember Victoria doing some lady depends type commercials for Japan? I don't know if I saw birthdates. Ehhhh.....I still never laughed at anything from Hot In Cleveland. I like Happily Divorced with Fran Drescher. I'd rather watch her than Joy, Melanie or Victoria. Those 3 ladies aren't even funny in my opinion. And I think Fran Drescher looks better than all of them.

I do agree with some of that. I like Wendie Malick and although she's essentially playing Nina Van Horn again in a way, she does get all the best lines and plots. Betty White is a legend, but she seems to have been demoted to secondary character lately, although they may just not want to overload her at this point - she's 91. I like it that she's been reunited with Gloria Engel.

Valerie may not have the most funny lines, but I think that's because she's the "straight" person here. I just flat out don't like Joy.

Having watched a good portion of the Hot in Cleveland marathon yesterday, I actually think that Elka always seems to save almost every episode from me calling it "the worst episode ever" with some great one-liners (including the one where the college kids actually preferred Elka over Joy!). Seriously, the fact that Betty White is 91 and still going strong really deserves a round of applause by me. And yes, the Ladypants and Birthdates episodes are in my Top 5 favorite HIC episodes of all-time (so far). Personally, I really do think that Hot in Cleveland is the best TV Land original show right now.

I must of missed a few episodes. How did Joy get Wilbur?. I saw an episode from the final episode of last season where the gals find a baby on the doorstep. Is this Wilbur. Then I see a church service where Joy's mother is there and many flashbacks happen and I see a husband/boyfriend. I'm a little lost.

I'm in the minority here, but I like the show & I also like Joy. There are episodes where she gets only a few funny lines though. It seems Wendie Malick gets the best dialogue of the four stars.
