This was the trading stamps episode. Prior to the satisfactory ending, I thought this episode was full of b.s.
-Carol DEMANDING that the kids pool their books together to get one big thing, instead of letting the boys get what they want and the girls get what they want so everyone will be happy. But NOOOOO, Carol makes them get only one thing. -When Carol decides that it's fair when the dog interferes during the boys turn and it knocks the house of cards down, how the hell is that fair? The boys did no wrong! -And then Carol, not deterred by the closed sign on the door of the trading stamp redemption store, positively starts BANGING on the door until the old man sweeping up finally has enough and lets them in. God, could this lady be any more obnoxious? -I was thinking early on either a pool table, television or stereo, so I was pretty delighted when Mike suggested pool table, but Carol had a problem with that for whatever reason. God Carol was irritating. Other observations: -A sewing machine? Okay, I can understand the girls wanting to get something girly, but a sewing machine? Did kids really make their own clothes that often back in the day? -in fairness, the boys wanted a rowboat, which wasn't much better. Too strenuous. At first, I thought they were saying "robot" as in home robot, which would be infinitely better because you can turn that thing into your own personal bitch. -Boring ep. Everything just dragged on. The kids can't decide on what to get and go through the catalog 5 times. Then they can't decide on what contest to hold to decide who gets to pick. Then they settle on house of cards, which goes on forever, and only ends when the dog interferes. And then the girls can't decide what sewing machine to get. Make up your mind already. -Mike was pretty level-headed here. Alice admitting that she eavesdrops was funny. |

After that episode, the boys should have stopped calling her "Mom" and just called her "Carol." She clearly didn't view them or treat them like they were her sons. Mike probably should have talked with a lawyer, too. Just in case.

Some good points!
I like the store janitor because to me he sounds like Jimmy Stewart! hahaha! The parenting is STRANGE in this one. Instead of flipping a coin or working out a compromise, Alice comes up with this, "How about that game with the cards, building houses?" like it's such an obvious good choice! LOL! When's the last time any family built a house of cards to settle a dispute? Actually, Tiger distracting the contest was "sort of" the boys fault because Greg, after yelling "Keep away!" does knock the cards over. (All except a few cards that were rigged with wire. Mike goes over to the table, pushes them down, and they pop back up.........again!") I wonder if Robert Reed had a "realism" conniption about that scene? I also don't like how Carol and Mike force all six kids to share the unclaimed money ($1,100) that only the boys found when playing football provided that the wallet goes unclaimed. The girls had nothing to do with finding the money. It should have been split three ways among the boys had it been unclaimed. Fortunately, the owner claimed the wallet. Jack |

I love this episode too even if it is ridiculous. Yes, they should have just kept the boys and the girls stamps separate and let them get separate, smaller premiums. I like how they re-use the Tiger bath scene from the “Katchoo” episode. Also, the gentleman at the trading stamp store eventually went to work for the DMV after the trading stamp company went out of business, and gave Marcia her drivers’ test a few years later.

I posted a comment on this thread weeks ago, but it has vanished. I don't think I said anything wrong?
