I know he was a good father and wanted to set an example, but he was wrong for slapping Julie. Yes, she lied to him for saying she didn't smoke, but he could have handled that differently. I see where he was coming from, but he had three girls who didnt get in trouble.

I have just begun watching this show again after many years so I have not seen this episode yet, but I wanted to respond to the Chief being too old fashioned.
IMO, I feel this is a big part of his character. He plays this tough, no non-sense cop who also has to be a single father to 3 girls. I feel it's part of the Father-Daughter relationship. My dad was also old fashioned, except when it came to boys. With us girls there were a different set of rules. Unfair? Old fashioned? Maybe, but he loved his girls and that's all I see out of the Chief, though he doesn't express it much. |
