Default So it is now 7 years and counting for the pending DVD release for seson 5/6?

Anyone know the reason for the delay for season 5 and 6? Seems odd since the show had 4 releases in a 2 year period.

The reason is quite simple: FOX, who apparently owns all MTM properties home video rights, can't get anything right on the DVD/Bluray front. For a company as large as they are their home entertainment division is poor by almost any measure. Choosing to not release certain properties (or even license them) is only one of the several problems they have. As a whole they place almost no focus on their their back catalog compared to say Warner Bros. or CBS/Paramount.

My plan is the buy the series once it's complete on DVD. I should have done that with Rhoda

I got the 4th season for my 18th birthday, I am going to be 25 this year-lol I was still in high school when the last season came out.

I still have the preorder listing in my wishlist on Amazon. Even that was over 2 years ago

The only option is for me to do what I did with the jeffersons, buy the first 4 seasons on DVD and then record seasons 5 and 6 from Me-TV on DVD

I hate when only one or two more seasons are needed to complete the series and the companies keep delaying the releases. There are many examples of this in the "stalled tv shows on DVD" thread. The other one that really gripes me is Green Acres, the final 3 seasons NEED to be released ASAP.

I think it's a little better just to record the last two seasons from Me-TV while you wait for the DVD release. Atleast that way you will have a complete series on DVD but the last two would just be non-commercial

Sad

Every few weeks, I get emails from Amazon.com regarding the pre-orders I placed two years ago, for seasons 5 and 6. I get to the point of rolling my eyes before hitting DELETE. One of these days I hope they surprise me with a release date!

In the meantime -- I have all but one episode as taped from Hallmark Channel. That channel ran the entire show, 4 episodes per night, for a short period of time, then stopped. I missed "My Son the Comedian" episode because of a power outage at my home. :-(

I have to wonder, too, if it may have to do with the residuals that were worked into the contracts of the players for the last two seasons. In meeting Bill Daily, Bill said he thought that was the hangup. Peter Bonerz wouldn't admit to that when I met him (on the fly once), but he did say about the potential release: "when pigs fly".

Wow, that sucks to have all but one episode especially since you tried to complete the series on your own while you waited for the commercial DVD release. And to make things worse I just found out that ME-TV has put Bob Newhart Show on hiatus

I don't think it's airing on ME TV anymore

Yeah when I made that post that was before it was reported that ME-TV put Bob Newhart on Hiatus.

I don't think I get ME-TV anyway. We have DirecTV, and I don't think I've seen that on the listings.

Any suggestions on getting copies from Comedy Gold? My copies of Rhoda seasons 1 and 5 came from that channel (another show not likely to be finished on DVD.)
