Cool Logo TV Launches "The Golden Girls" Ultimate Fan Club

Logo TV Launches "The Golden Girls" Ultimate Fan Club
by NewNowNext Staff
May 13, 2013

It’s girl power! Gay power! Gray (haired) power!

"The Golden Girls" may have aired 25 years ago on NBC, but it finally found its rightful home on Logo! You see, Logo loves "The Golden Girls" as much as you do. And now with the help of our favorite "The Golden Girls" superfan Dave Rubin, we want you to join Logo’s The Golden Girls Ultimate Fan Club!

Each week, go to https://www.facebook.com/GoldenGirlsUFC to vote on episodes. Then, each Friday at 7 PM ET starting on June 7th, join Chairman Dave on www.twitter.com/LogoTV or via live chat at LogoTALK! before you watch the winning episodes at 8 PM ET/PT.

Vote starting May 30th, comment on Facebook and tweet up a storm! The more you engage, the better your chances of being named a member of The Golden Girls Ultimate Fanclub by the Chairman himself, Dave Rubin.

Each week, Logo will pick the most socially engaged fans and name a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary of the club. The lucky title-holders will be given a special on-air mention during each marathon!

Weekly Categories Include:

“Miami Showgirls: Best Song & Dance Episodes”
“Serving Boy-Crazy: ‘The Golden Girls’ Hottest Dates”
“Serving Shade: ‘The Golden Girls’ Bitchiest Episodes”
“Cuttin’ Loose: Best ‘The Golden Girls’ High Jinks”
“Serving Slut: Best of Blanche”
“Serving Saucy: Best of Dorothy”
“Serving Ditz: Best of Rose”
“Serving Sass: Best of Sophia”

Just out of curiosity, why does Logo like "The Golden Girls" so much? All four women were clearly shown to be heterosexual. Were there homosexual characters on the show I'm not aware of?

Don't quote me on this, but I heard that Shows with strong female leads tend to have a fairly large following of gay men. I have absolutely no idea why.

It's because the writing on female-centric shows tends to be more sophisticated and witty (see also "Designing Women") that it appeals to gay male sensibilities more than something basic and primitive ("The Three Stooges"--a show primarily popular with straight males; or "Married With Children" which is heavy on T&A humour).

I wasn't a fan of the later shows. The best episodes were the early ones, particularly one where Blanche called Sophia a "raisin in sneakers". I'm sure someone will know instantly the episode to which I'm alluding. Are these early episodes available free anywhere or are all these references to click on simply a means of extorting money from the general public?

Well if they love Golden Girls so much then I say add Empty Nest. Seems like a good fit, with all the Golden Girls love and Kristie McNichol. Why Not.

I've wondered about that too. That's an excellent explanation, Kasey.

Or maybe it was because the men of the show were made to look stupid, criminal or just plain over-sexed..

I agree! Being gay myself, I've always been drawn to female centered shows, i.e., The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls, The Nanny, Bewitched, Reba, etc. and never understood why. Kasey's explanation makes a lot of sense.
