They orginally wanted John Wayne to play Matt Dillion? He said no but was working with James Arnes and suggested him for the part. He was so much taller then most of the actors that he stood in a hole when he was next to them so he wouldn't be so much taller. And because of an old war engery, he couldn't put his leg up over the horse to get on so they used a stunt double.

Yeah I know about the part of Matt Dillon originally being offered to John Wayne. But I didn't know about James Arness having an old war injury. Interesting.

The stunt double had a good career for 20 years. Matt was on a horse a lot.
