British Cult Hit "The IT Crowd" To Return for Finale Special

Another TV show is coming back for its final say — this time from across the pond.

"The IT Crowd", a British show about computer guys and their misadventures, ended in 2010 but has gotten a reprieve on its untimely demise. Rumors have been swirling for several years about a fifth season, to give the characters closure and end things on the note that creator Graham Linehan (Father Ted) always wanted.

He tweeted in 2012 that he had written a script but was waiting on the cast members’ schedules to open up.

And now they have.

Since the show aired, star Chris O’Dowd has become a fairly recognizable face in the States, with parts in Bridesmaids and "Girls", and undoubtedly he was one of the larger scheduling conflicts. Now, EW has confirmed a report that he will be reprising his role as Roy Trenneman in a 40-minute finale special, a long-awaited wrap-up to the popular series.

The other major cast members, Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson and Matt Berry have also been rumored to return. No word on when it will be available to U.S. fans, but the rest of the series is available to stream on Netflix on this side of the Atlantic so you can catch up.

By the end of season 4, the show had high ratings and had won several awards, including a BAFTA and several comedy prizes.

An American adaptation starring Joel McHale (as O’Dowd’s character) was in the works in 2007 but never made it off the ground.

This is good news.

I'm a big fan of The IT Crowd.
Was just watching some episodes last night.
Very funny stuff.

As far as Britcoms go, there was always talk of a Spaced reunion, but that has never happened. Writer/actor Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright have had a lot of movie success.
