In episode three, "The Black Eye", Beaver is talking to Gus the fireman.
"I'm never getting married..! But if I do, it won't be to a girl." |

You have to remember that Beaver was only about 7 years old when he said that. I'm sure that Ward would understand that and would realize tha Beaver's tastes were going to change as he got older. However that is a rather racy quote for late 50's TV!

Oh, I know he was a young boy when he said that, and didn't understand how it sounded.
I'm just surprised the writers put it in there. |

There was an episode when the boys were older and Wally had to dress up as a showgirl for a play that a club was putting on. I recall being surprised that Ward didn't have a problem with Wally doing that part at his age. It's one thing for a little boy to make an off hand remark about never marrying a woman, but it's totally different for a teenage boy to be wearing a dress, even if it's a satire. IDK, Ward just seemed to be one of those "manly men" who would not approve of "cross dressing."

Keep in mind this show was on during the late 50's. The world was very different.

Ward was an educated man. He would have known the Shakespearean tradition of men dressing as women for humor.
