Default Keyboard layout?

Why is the keyboard laid out the way it is? why is it QWERTYUIOP.......... instead of in ABC order?

Well, the name of the guy who layed out the keyboard was Qwerty, that's why his name is in the top left. Also, I think that the most common letters are towards the center and the least common letters are towards the sides. I hope you understand this.

I have no clue, but then again, it could be a last name. My last name isn't much better either, but then I think a lot of people think that about their last name.

Yeah, it's layed out so that - providing you place your hands in the correct place - typing is as easy as possible. The most used letters are easiest to get to.
I'm not sure about the 'Qwerty' thing though. Are you sure the guy who invented it was called Qwerty? The letter U always comes after Q no matter what. In which case the guys name would be Querty not Qwerty.

Speaking of being named after things - does anyone know the name of the dude who invented the flushing toilet?

It was Thomas Crapper! I kid you not!

Um, I don't think Qwerty was anyone's name. My dad told me that it was laid out that way back when guys were setting the type for presses and stuff. They just put the more frequently used letters in certain places.
