Exclamation Judge Belvin Perry Update: "Casey Anthony may have Killed Caylee by Accident"

Casey Anthony Evidence: Judge Belvin Perry Says There Was Enough for Conviction
5/06/13

The judge who presided over the trial of Casey Anthony said Monday he believed there was enough evidence to convict the Florida mother who was acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter.

Judge Belvin Perry told NBC's "Today" show that he thought there was sufficient evidence for a conviction on a first-degree murder charge, even though much of the evidence was circumstantial.

Anthony was acquitted almost two years ago of killing her daughter, Caylee, following a trial that attracted worldwide attention. She was convicted of making false statements to police and got credit for time served.

When he read the jury's verdict, Belvin said he felt "surprise, shock, disbelief" and read it twice.

"I just wanted to be sure I was reading what I was reading," Perry said.

Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, refused to say anything to The Associated Press about the interview when reached by phone. He said he would comment after a request had gone through his Los Angeles-based spokesman.

A spokeswoman for the Judicial Qualifications Commission, which oversees Florida judges, didn't immediately return a phone call.

The judge said he saw two sides to Anthony. The one she showed to jurors was a wrongfully accused mother grieving for her child. The other was a woman wasn't afraid to shout and swear at her attorneys, as she did when they talked to her about a possible plea deal for aggravated murder.

"There were always two sides to Casey," Perry said. "The public persona that she wanted the jury to see and there was a side that she showed when the jury wasn't there."

Perry also said he thought prosecutors were better attorneys than Baez, who the judge described as "personable." All the defense had to do was create reasonable doubt, which they did, he said.

"He came across as someone you would like," Perry said of Baez. "Like someone trying to sell a used car. Who are you going to buy from? The most likable salesman."

The judge also said he thought justice had been served with a jury verdict.

"Justice will finally be served one day by the Judge of Judges," Perry said. "She is going to have to live with this and deal with this for the rest of her life."

I like judge Belvin Perry. He wasn't fooled for a second by Casey and her snake attorneys. That jury out in Florida was out to lunch. Scott Peterson was convicted on less evidence.

Karma will catch up with Casey Anthony some day. And Karma will catch up with Jose Baez, too. The man is lower than dirt.

Of course there was enough evidence. That story was heartbreaking. Karma will get her snake attorney, just like it did with O.J.'s "Dream Team". You can't do something like that and skate. Tick, tock...

Karma finally caught up to OJ Simpson when he was sentenced to prison for burglary/robbery/home invasion.

I felt so sorry for Fred Goldman when OJ was acquitted in 1994. Maybe Fred Goldman has some sort of peace of mind now. Same with the Brown family.

No matter what one believes about the verdict, it was pretty unprofessional for the judge to make this comment. I'm sure that he is going to be censured by the Florida JQC.

The prosecution's case was pretty piss-poor. How do you present evidence, even circumstantial evidence, so poorly that the jury doesn't beleive you? Easy. Attorneys (both prosecution and defense) weed out the rational thinkers during jury selection. Attorneys are biased against males (females stereotypically go with their gut/feelings in making decision instead of using their intellect) and people with advanced degrees (god forbid you want someone who understands the concept of critical thinking).

What do you get from this recipe? A jury who is emotional, easily swayed, under employed, and not critical enough to their work place that their supervisor can supply the necessary documentation to get them out of jury duty. Congratulations!

a complete tragedy; not much a even judge can do about it now but feel guilty that he was involved in such an injustice.

Judge Perry: "Casey Anthony May Have Killed Caylee by Accident"
by Rene Stutzman - Orlando Sentinel
3/2/17

Casey Anthony, who was acquitted of first degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, may have accidentally killed Caylee by accident when she tried to quiet the toddler with chloroform, said former Circuit Judge Belvin Perry Jr., who presided over the 2011 trial.

It’s a theory, he said, and if jurors had come to that conclusion, they might have found her guilty of second-degree murder or manslaughter.

Anthony was charged with first-degree murder after Caylee disappeared in 2008. Anthony, now 30, was charged with first-degree murder, and prosecutors asked for the death penalty, but a jury acquitted her July 5, 2011.

Perry, who was chief of the Orange-Osceola circuit until he retired and joined a private law firm in 2014.

In a phone interview Wednesday, Perry did not find fault with the verdict, but said evidence showed that Anthony had gone online to research how to use chloroform as a sedative.

A scientist also reported finding chloroform in the trunk of her car, where prosecutors said Anthony likely put Caylee’s body temporarily.

Authorities were unable to determine a cause of death. The child’s remains were found five months after she was reported missing.

Defense attorney Jose Baez told jurors that the toddler accidentally drowned in the family pool and that someone else hid the body. Prosecutors said Anthony used chloroform and then suffocated the child by putting duct tape over her mouth.

In the past, Perry said, surgeons used chloroform as an anesthetic.

There was a possibility that she may have utilized that to keep the baby quiet ... and just used too much of it, and the baby died,” he said. “That’s just one of the many theories as to how this beautiful young lady Caylee tragically met her death.

He stressed that that was just one of several theories about what may have happened to Caylee. “As I’ve expressed, the only person that really knows what happened was Casey,” Perry said. “For whatever reason, people are still fascinated with Casey Anthony,” he added.

Since her acquittal, Anthony has lived in seclusion.

Accident?

Yeah, right.

She is as guilty as sin.

She wanted to be free of this child, killed her deliberately, stuffed her into a trunk and threw her out in a field like she was garbage.

And then went out and partied like nothing happened.

She is a monster, plain and simple.

My blood is still boiling over this travesty of justice.

Either way, how in the hell can the judge think it could possibly have been an accident when the child had been found with tape over her mouth so she couldn't breathe?

Obviously it was intentional murder. I don't need a law degree to figure that one out!

Stupid jury.

Corrupt, smug lawyer.

How many people quiet their children with Chloroform? How does one get Chloroform. Tip toed into a drug store and ask for a bottle. Let's face Casey wasn't all there with her parenting skills. I wonder where Casey will be in 20 years.

Why was Caylee not reported missing until about a month after she was last seen?
Looking back, something seemed off about the family relationship.

He did not say he believed it was an accident, he just said it was a theory. There is a difference there.
