My second to last post on this page is called "General Hospital. This was simply one more attempt to stimulate some conversation about this fine series! When I posted my last message, my "General Hospital" thread had forty views and zero replies. I decided to commemorate this event by writing about something that happened forty years ago. This is were we come to "The Flintstone Comedy Show". That series was an incarnation of the "Flintstones" that was made forty years ago. That thread now has sixteen views and zero replies. In between the time that I posted that one and the present moment, I have gone on to post new messages on the pages of "Gimme a Break!" and "Caroline in the City". So far, neither of them have stimulated any conversation, although they both have multiple views. So now I return here! I see that the number of views of my "General Hospital" thread has climbed to forty-two. So now I would like to commemorate it by mentioning something that happened forty-two years ago. That was the year of the very groundbreaking series known as "All in the Family". Is anyone here a fan of that show? I thought it was great! In my opinion, it paved the way for a lot of later shows including "Mad About You". "All in the Family" broke down many barriers in terms of being able to mention such topics as religion, war and even homosexuality on prime-time TV. On "Mad About You" Fran was constantly referring to her butt as her ass. That was part of the boldness of her character. Well, I would say that we have shows like "All in the Family" to thank for breaking down the barriers for eventualities like that. Any thoughts anyone?

Oh definetly, All in the Family is reesponsible for a lot of change, groundbreaking is the best word to describe it

The first thing that I would like to do is express how happy I am to have finally thought of a topic that another poster thought worthy of a response! In my initial post, I mentioned how we have groundbreaking shows like "All in the Family", to thank for the eventuality of shows like "Mad About You". One thing that a lot of people have joked about is how, in the "Brady Bunch" as many scenes as there have been in the bathroom, we never once saw a toilet! That is because that type of scenery was strictly taboo in those days! Well, one of the barriers that "All in the Family" broke down was being able to get a lot more descriptive about peoples' bathroom habits than they ever did in "Brady Bunch" days. I also mentioned Fran's tendency to refer to her own butt as her ass. She was a very bold character in situations like that. I remember once when she said that she was wearing jeans because she was having a good ass day! Even though her character could be a little crude in situations like that, I thought of her as being quite sweet! I especially liked the way that she looked in a short skirt with hose! Oh baby! In any event, I am now going to go to a couple of other pages and write about my success in getting a reply here! Bye!

Every show breaks more ground the for next, we are at the point now where somethings on TV are "too realistic" in other words there are some things I wish weren't talked about on sitcoms (certain topics, etc.) All in the Family seems tame by todays standards, they skate along the edges on somethings but today there is no hiding what they are talking about.

You never cease to amaze me with your words of wisdom in your responses! You offered me a lot of interesting food for thought in terms of how shows like "All in the Family" (and "Mad About You") are quite a bit different than what we have today.
