That's a good question. I love action movies and action movies were big in the 80's and 90's. Unfortunately it's not like that anymore. Most action movies now are going straight to video and i've seen a lot of good ones that Steven Seagal, Jean Claude Van Damme, Cuba Gooding Jr, Wesley Snipes, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham have done. I'm glad Sylvester Stallone is trying to keep action movies alive by doing these Expendables movies. Hopefully this next one will be the last one because i don't want there to be a bunch of Expendables sequels LOL. Sylvester can do other movies besides Expendables. There was some good action movies that came to theatres earlier this year that didn't make a lot of money but i don't care because i liked them and the ones i'm talking about are Gangster Squad, Parker, Bullet To The Head, The Last Stand, Die Hard 5.

Rapper 50 Cent has done a few straight to video action movies i liked such as Freelancers with Robert Deniro and Forest Whitaker, Gun with Val Kilmer, Blood Out(i wish he had a bigger part in this). I would like to see Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, The Rock do more action movies and hopefully this next Fast and the Furious will be the last one because 6 sequels is enough LOL. It's very disappointing that Vin Diesel hasn't done a lot of action movies because he's a big guy and he's built to do action movies. I bet there won't be a lot of action movies coming out this summer. Summer used to be the best time for movies in the 80's and 90's and now it's not like that. I wonder if Arnold Schwarzenegger is gonna do anymore action movies now that he's not a politican. The Last Stand was alright but i was expecting more action. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't do that many movies considering he's old. I love his Commando movie and that's my favorite movie of his.

Like everything else, it's a matter of personal opinion.

People also ask why the movies today aren't as good as in the '50s, '60s and '70s.

It's all purely subjective. And there were people in the 80's and 90's complaining that the films weren't as good as the ones from the 70's and older. ALL decades have their lows and highs.

It also depends on what you're looking for, and what types of films you're watching. If you're only watching mainstream Hollywood films, expand your viewing- there are lots of American movies that don't get wide releases (One of my favorite films of the last few years is Robot And Frank.) Or watch films from other countries.

Then stop watching Jim Carrey and Bruce Willis movies.

Though I thought Looper was excellent, and was as good or better than his stuff from the 90's.
