Friday the 13th Part 3 Actor Richard Brooker Dies
April 8, 2013 by Charles F. Rosenay aka Cryptmaster Chiller Chucky Richard Brooker didn't have many acting credits, but horror fans may recognize the name as the man who played Jason Voorhees in the third installment of the Friday the 13th film series. Born in 1954, Brooker was the first Jason to wear the famed hockey mask. The 1982 movie was a novelty in 3D a few decades before 3D became so popular and prevalent. The following is from Richard Brooker's personal website (originally printed in Jason Goes to Hell magazine) www.RichardJBrooker.com: "Starring as a totally mindless killing machine seemed the perfect opportunity to prove that you don’t have to talk to act," he explains. "The director, Steve Miner, agreed that Jason should be played in a largely improvisational manner." Predictably, it was the 3D filming that Brooker found most painstaking. "The kills were probably the hardest things we had to shoot," he says, "because the 3D process we used necessitated multiple takes on everything. It was not uncommon to do 14 or 15 takes of a simple stabbing sequence; we spent hours and hours on the eyeball squeeze." But the 3D hardships paid off, after a fashion. "I wasn’t a bad Jason." Brooker laughingly claims, adding that having essayed the masked killer proved to be an ice-breaker with the ladies. "I was once introduced to a girl in a bar as the guy who played Jason," he smiles. "She wanted to know if I slept with a hatchet in my bed." The British actor also appeared in 1983's Deathstalker. We'll miss his Facebook photographs of sunsets. http://www.examiner.com/article/frid...rooker-dies-1? |

RIP Mr Brooker.
I got to see Friday The 13th Part III during it's theatrical run, still have the glasses. Brooker was also in Deathstalker(and served as the stunt coordinator.) |
