I'm serious. I'm very angry at Bea Arthur. What a hit show and yet, there was no reunion. The show was pure gold. No pun intended.
NBC would've had great ratings on a 2 hour special. I know it. Now it's way too late. I accepted that the years of non stop, hilarious entertainment had to end eventually...but I wanted a reunion show!! |

Betty, Rue and Estelle reunited twice, on The John Larroquette Show in 1996, and on Ladie's Man in 2000. I'm sure they would have been up for a Golden Girls reunion, if not for the lone hold-out, Bea.
Of course, it wasn't long after 2000, that Estelle wasn't able to act anymore, so the time period for a possible reunion to happen, would have been short.

The best time they could have done this was in 1999/2000 had they all been included. At this time, Growing Pains and The Facts Of Life were given the go-aheads for TV reunion movies. The weird thing is, NBC may not have even aired it had they made one. ABC was the network that aired both The Facts Of Life and Growing Pains reunions, and Facts Of Life was originally on NBC. A final reunion of the girls would have been nice to see after the Golden Palace was cancelld in 1993 and then our last look at Sophia on Empty Nest's last episode. It would have been nice to see where the girls were at this point. By 2003, at the NBC 50th anniversary show, only Rue and Betty were there, unless Bea went and didn't sit with them (but that would have been odd not to), and Estelle was not present, most likely because she was sick by this time. I think had they had one last show and a reunion film, I think it would have opened with the girls selling The Golden Palace, or the Golden Palace burned down, this would lead to Rose, Blanche and Sophia officially retiring from any form of work, and Dorothy returning to help them out in their time of loss. Perhaps Lucas dies and leaves Dorothy his fortune and she decides to go back to Florida and buy a new house for the 4 girls to live in together again? That's how I think they would have done a reunion, had it happened. Somehow, we knew all 4 would always reunite again and never drift apart. |

Lifetime had proper cast-reunion retrospective shows of Designing Women and The Nanny- but when it did that Golden Girls special, the ladies (except Estelle Getty, of course) all filmed their parts separately. That made a lot of sense.

It would have been nice to have had a reunion special that included all of the actresses. I guess we'll just have to live with our wonderful memories of the show...

i admit that it would have been great to see a reunion show with the girls, but at the same time there has been plenty of featurettes of behind the scenes stuff that I suppose it wasn't necessary.

Wished a reunion was planned. The Golden Palace episode when Dorothy visited is somewhat of a reunion I guess.
