Default New season of Unusual Suspects

For those of you who watch the Invesitagation Discovery series Unusual Suspects, the new season begins on Sunday, March 31, at 10 pm (Eastern Time). It will be the show's fifth season.

Of all the ID shows, Unusual Suspects is one of my favorites. That show piqued my interest because I'm interested in cases in which, despite some obvious suspects, the perpetrator was eventually identified as someone who was either among the least suspected or completely under the radar.

I also enjoy the show, as well as Cold Blood and the new one, Catch My Killer. I hope ID will go back to airing these kinds of shows, and drop some of those softcore crime porn shows like Scorned and Deadly Affairs.

Yay! I started watching this show a few months ago, and it is one of my favorties on ID.

Same here. I don't watch the "softcore crime porn" ones, because the idea of them being so light all the time turns me off. But I don't mind it when true crime shows occasionally have lighter moments, as long as the lightness is not overdone.

True crime shows are supposed to be dramatic, and that's what works for shows like Unusual Suspects and Cold Blood.

I started watching the I.D. channel months ago and got into "Unusual Suspects". I think it's an interesting show. I have a ton of shows DVR'd from the I.D. channel I need to sit down and watch sometime. When the show is good... it really hits me hard.

*spoilers* The episode where an entire family was murdered had me in Tears. Their Daughter was home from College and managed to escape. Turned out the family was murdered by their Son's best friend (!) they seemed like such a nice family.

Another episode had an older lady who was friends with delinquent youths and they murdered her for some money. She was a single Mom who was settling into being Divorced. by all accounts she seemed so sweet. *Spoilers*

I just caught this show for the first time. The episode I watched was "Death of Innocence", regarding the brutal rape and murder of 8-year old Kenny Conrick of Gary, IN. What made this particularly sad was that his brother had died at the age of 4 in a drowning accident, thus meaning the mother had lost both of her sons at very young ages.

As Kane noted, the show does present various good suspects, which keeps you guessing until the end. In this case, there was the mother's alcoholic, abusive and mentally insane boyfriend (who later committed suicide), the babysitter who had abandoned him on a previous occasion and had introduced him to porn, and a local sex offender. The perp turned out to be none of these, but rather a local paperboy named David Bowen, who was 15-16 at the time.

I won't get into the details of Kenny's death since it was very gruesome and horrifying. Poor kid.

One of the creepier, more disturbing ones was the murder of a sixty-something woman who worked at a pharmacy. The initial suspects were her ex-husband and her daughter's boyfriend.

**spoilers**

but the actual murderer turned out to be her co-worker, a 21 year-old man who became sexually attracted to her and decided to break into her house and rape her. She fought back and he killed her. What's even more disturbing is that the killer sang gospel songs he wrote himself while he was being questioned by police!

Most of the cases featured on Unusual Suspects have been ones that I had no advance knowledge of, so that helps keep me guessing throughout each episode. Inevitably, however, the show features cases that I am already familiar with, but I watch those episodes anyway. When it comes cases that I'm not familiar with, I don't mind knowing a few minor details ahead of time, such as where and when the crime took place. But other than that, until I have seen the episode, the less I know the better.

The cases featured in the episodes I have seen so far I was not familiar with at all and am finding it a great show. You can't guess the "real killer" anyway as not all the subjects always appear at the beginning--they often close in on the real culprit near the end and it's some kid who lived down the street all along and no one noticed because he was so nondescript.

Once I read that despite racial tensions which cause people to be suspicious of those from different races, victims of very violent crimes are most likely to be attacked by someone of their own race from their own neighborhood. This certainly holds true from the cases I've seen here. In only one was the guilty party of a different race than the victim--and he lived within walking distance. In the other cases, they were from basically the same race and location, sometimes from right down the street!

When you are unfamiliar with any given criminal case, you definitely cannot guess the real perpetrator. Unusual Suspects effectively demonstrates that you cannot be sure that you know someone well enough. When someone you know is accused of a crime, your natural reaction is, "he/she would never do a thing like that." But as the old saying goes, looks can be deceiving. There are a lot of deceivers out there, especially ones who are experts at keeping up appearances.

Was there an episode of this on Kari Lynn Nixon? According to a wiki page, there was. However, I cannot find it. I know they did an episode on Danny Paquette which I have seen.

I can find no record of the Kari Lynn Nixon case ever being featured on Unusual Suspects. Therefore, the information on the wikia page is incorrect. However, the case was featured in Nightmare Next Door; the name of the episode is "Small Town Secret."

By the way, I have seen the Unusual Suspects episode about the Danny Paquette murder. The episode is titled "Getting Even."

The Danny Paquette case wasn't that interesting to me on UM. I watched it again after watching the Unusual Suspects episode several months ago. The Nightmare Nextdoor episode on Nixon was very good (IMO). As was Highway to Hell (Lisa Marie Kimmell). As soon as I watch a UM case on another show, I try to immediately go back and watch the UM segment again. It was like this with the aforementioned cases as well the Colleen Reed case (American Justice "free to Kill Again" on K. McDuff), Amy Bradley (Vanished), etc.

The new season of Unusual Suspects begins on Sunday, January 10, 2016. I saw a promo of it on ID a while ago. I'm looking forward to seeing the new season.

Very sad epilogue to the episode that aired a few nights ago. The female victim's mother was featured prominently throughout the show. She didn't seem very old and no obvious health issues. Then at the end of the program there was a blurb onscreen, indicating she died on January 11, about a week before the episode aired. Her name was Sonya Steinhoff.
