The episode when Darlene was laying around depressed and not talking to anyone made Dan and Roseanne constantly ask her...."what;s wrong? What's are you not doing anything?

Peggy and Al would have pretended she was the couch and not said a word to her

It was obvious she was SCREAMING for attention and they fell into the trap

I agree that I think she was asking for attention, then when they were trying to comfort her and be there for her as concerning parents she would have tell them to leave her alone. I will admit that High School is tough and the kids can be cruel, but you don't mope around the house you try to fix it by talking about it with someone who understands the situation.

As for Al & Peggy situation, I just see Al just pushing her off the couch and then sits down to watch Psycho Dad.

That's exactly what he would have did

He would have ignored her and pretended like she wasn't even there.

AL: "Didn't I take her to the candy shop when was a little girl?

Peg: "yes"

AL: "Then I did my job"
