Default Valerie Harper to Discuss Cancer Diagnosis on 'The Doctors' March 11 With Ed & Cloris

Link

"Rhoda" star Valerie Harper, who revealed earlier this week that she's been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and may have just three months to live, will discuss her condition on the syndicated medical talk show "The Doctors."

On the episode, airing March 11, the 73-year-old actress appears with her husband, Tony Cacciotti, along with her "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" castmates Cloris Leachman and Ed Asner.

Harper reveals during the episode that Cacciotti initially hid the diagnosis from her after learning of it from her doctors because the prognosis was so short. "I didn't get it because my husband hid it. Poor baby; he was so bereft," the actress says. "[The doctors] said there is nothing we can do for her and [she has] three to six months; maybe."

The CBS Television Distribution show will also have Harper's medical team from Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on the show to discuss her treatment. "The Doctors" co-host, Dr. Travis Stork, will also shed light on Harper's ailment.

Harper told People magazine that she has leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, which causes cancer cells to spread into the fluid-filled membrane around the brain.

Harper told the magazine that she is trying to maintain a positive outlook.

"I don't think of dying," she said. "I think of being here now."

I'm glad Mr. Asner and Miss Leachman are there for Miss Harper to help her through this horrific time regardless of the outcome. On a much lighter note, think it's MOST refreshing that while Phyllis and Rhoda were definitely 'frenemies' on MTM, off-screen, Cloris and Valerie each let it out on their bios that they've always have been tightest pals. A much happier reality than so many other shows where on-screen BFF's can't stand each other off-camera.

^ Although she and Mary were as tight off-screen and still are.

Valerie is truly a courageous woman, to be doing this (appearing on The Doctors and The Today Show). God bless her!

Definitely. And she's not only courageous, she's extremely generous. She absolutely does not have to do this, but apparently is trying to use her tragedy to help others, even if she ultimately can't help herself. This is an incredibly selfless act, and yet another reason to love her. What a beautiful woman, inside and out.

I'm honestly awe inspired by her. I've been following her since she revealed the news and just...wow. Like I really don't know what else to say. She's amazing.
