Dear Brian,
I have a proposal for SHOUT! Factory: to make a deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution for SHOUT! to have exclusive DVD rights to the hit 1980s sitcom Growing Pains. In case you arent familiar with it, Brian: Growing Pains was a hit 1980s sitcom which made a teen idol out of 15-year-old Kirk Cameron (who, per his E! True Hollywood Story episode originally aired in the year 2000 was born on October 12, 1969 in Los Angeles, California, USA), who, coincidentally, has a younger sister named Candace (born on April 6, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, USA; again per E! True Hollywood Story), who is best known as eldest daughter D.J. on TVs Full House (the complete series of which is available in 8 season DVDs from Warner Home Video). On the show, Kirk portrayed Mike Seaver, a 15-year-old kid who spent more time clowning than being responsible at Thomas E. Dewey High School; at home, he was no different: he lived at 15 Robin Hood Lane in Long Island, New York with his parents: dad Jason (Alan Thicke), an at-home Psychiatrist; mom Maggie (Joanna Kerns), a Newspaper Reporter for the fictional Long Island Herald; his 14-year-old sister (and schoolmate) Carol (Tracey Gold); and their 9-year-old brother Ben (Jeremy Miller). Though ratings struggled during its 1st season, Growing Pains became a bona-fide hit by September 1986, therefore cementing Kirk Cameron into the Teen Idol Hall of Fame; however, per his 2008 memoir Still Growing, that wasnt enough to prevent Kirk from going through real-life Growing Pains of his own when cameras werent rolling, as he and his sister Candace, c. 1986, soon after his birthday that year, faced the real-life Separation/Divorce of their real-life parents: dad Rob, a Gym Coach who is now retired; and mom Barbara, a Housewife who doubled as Kirks manager (or in Kardashian terms, Kirks Momager). During the Summer of 1987, Kirk, aged 17, was cast opposite British actor Dudley Moore (born April 19, 1935 in Dagenham, England, UK; died March 27, 2002 in Plainfield, New Jersey, USA of pneumonia after a 2 1/2-year battle with Progressive Supranuclea Palsy) in the big-screen feature Like Father, Like Son, released theatrically to Box Office Success on October 2, 1987, 10 days before Kirk turned 18; during a break from filming the movie, Kirk, by his own admission, sat in his parked car in the Los Angeles subdivision of Van Nuys, California and, pertaining to his parents recent divorce, asked himself, If there IS a God, I NEED to know--and soon after saying that bumbling prayer, Kirk changed from a lifelong devout Atheist to a humble devout Christian. Per a 2008 700 Club Interview, Kirk stated that after his Christian Conversion, all the F Bombs Stopped and he soon afterwards stopped pulling Pranks and became Mr. Serious (per Kirks E! THS episode). In May 1988, Mike Seaver graduated from Thomas E. Dewey High School; that same year, 18-year-old Kirk graduated high school in real life from Chatsworth High School in Los Angeles. Per E! THS, Tracey Gold was born on May 16, 1969 in New York City, New York, USA, making her slightly older (by nearly 5 months) than Kirk Cameron in real life; likewise, Jeremy Miller was born on October 21, 1975 in West Covina, California, and graduated high school in 1994, at age 18, after which he attended the University of Souther California before dropping out of college in 1995. In September 1989, Kirk, just weeks shy of turning 20, met and fell in love with aspiring actress/model Nancy Mueller (born on December 4, 1964 in Buffalo, New York, USA), known professionally as Chelsea Noble, who was cast on Growing Pains as Kate MacDonald, a potential love interest of Mike Seaver--a role that soon switched to real life for Kirk Cameron. On July 20, 1991, per E! THS, Kirk & Nancy were married on July 20, 1991 in Nancys hometown of Buffalo, New York in a private ceremony attended by only immediate family members of both parties; weeks before the wedding, however, Nancys father, Fred Mueller,, died a few days after suffering a Massive Heart Attack, with her brother David giving her away at her wedding to Kirk. In April 1991, per E! THS, Kirk called the President of the Network, stating his employers, Dan Guntzelman, Mike Sullivan, and Steve Marshall, were Pornographers (in Steves case, sadly correct, as he pled guilty in early 2010 to Possession of Child Pornography and will be released from Prison in 2017 after serving 7 years behind bars); furious, the 3 producers quit and were soon replaced by new Writers/Directors while a young Leonardo DiCaprio (born on November 11, 1974 in Los Angeles, California, USA), then aged 16, joined the cast as Luke Brower, a homeless teenager taken in by the Seaver family at the start of Season 7 in Fall 1991. Despite the many changes that season, Growing Pains still hung on to viewers, reaching (per A&E Biography on DiCaprio) 13 million viewers a week; however, that wasnt enough, as the series was canceled in early 1992 due to the networks tiring of Kirk Cameron and his religious beliefs. Meanwhile, the following year, after graduating from high school in 1993, Candace Cameron, then aged 18, began a 2-year Courtship with now-retired Pro Hockey Player Val Bure (born on June 13, 1974 in Moscow, Russia), who she would eventually marry on June 22, 1996 and become the proud parent of a now-teenaged daughter, a now-13-year-old son, and a preteen son--3 younguns--after her hit 1980s sitcom Full House was canceled in early 1995. In 2002, Candace, soon after her youngest son was born, retired from acting and relocated with her family of 5 to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she still lives today when she isnt traveling back and forth across the United States as a Motivational Speaker who acts in occasional telefilms. Kirk himself officially retired in early 2000, months after his 30th birthday, and began his own Ministry in the hopes of helping Save the Lost the way Jesus did as depicted in the Bible; months after the 9/11 attacks, in early 2002, Kirk, aged 32, teamed up with 52-year-old New Zealand-born author Ray Comfort to combine their Ministries, becoming known as The Way of the Master. Today, at age 43, Kirk Cameron is the proud father of 6 children--4 adopted teenage children and 2 biological children: a preteen daughter, Olivia, and an almost 10-year-old son, James. More than 2 decades later, Kirk & Nancy are still married and reside in Los Angeles, California. Tentatively, Brian, SHOUT! shall re-release Growing Pains: The Complete First Season and Growing Pains: The Complete Second Season on DVD on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at a cost of just $19.99 each wherever DVDs are sold, after which SHOUT! shall release Growing Pains: The Complete Third Season on DVD on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 (28 years to the day of the series debut) at a cost of $19.99, followed 6 weeks later by Growing Pains: The Complete Fourth Season on DVD on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at a cost of $19.99, then followed by Growing Pains: The Complete Fifth Season on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at a cost of $19.99, then followed 2 weeks later on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 (the week after Thanksgiving) by Growing Pains: The Complete Sixth Season at a cost of $19.99, and then the week before Christmas, on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, Growing Pains: The Complete Seventh Season shall be released on DVD at a cost of $19.99. Among Bonus Features I would LOVE to see on each individual season include Original Growing Pains Promos, as well as each episode on the Season DVDs Complete, Uncut, AND Unedited, just the way that they originally aired on the ABC Television Network. Sincerely, Danny Hooley |
