On the opening of the show, we see Jed stricking oil, BUT that was NOT in the actual first episode.
My grandma tells me that, back in the 1960s when the show was airing live, she SPECIFICALLY remembers an episode that showed Jed shooting at a rabbit and stricking the oil the same scene we see on the opening. And he runs in to tell Granny and they both run out the door, *the scene that we see on the opening of the color episodes. The opening of the black and white episodes is different, it's the scene where Jed comes running in to tell Granny that Jethro was going to hit the cabin with the truck. Does anyone remember? |

no, there wasn't a "lost" pilot episode. Your grandma must be thinking of something else. Also, she's wrong about the show airing live-it never did.

I mean she remembers watching it back when it aired in the 60s in it's original run, and she said she specifically remembers and episode that shows Jed going hunting and striking oil. I thought maybe there could have been an actual pilot that got lost over the years and maybe the episode they show nowdays as the pilot might actually be the 2nd episode. |

There is a pilot that was call The Hillbillies of Beverly Hills but it was almost the same as the aired pilot. It did not show Jed hunting a rabbit and striking oil. The laugh track was much louder/different.

I'm just wondering if there is a lot that got lost. B/c I would have assumed the first episode would have dealt with their trip more than anything. And what's funny is, it seems like I remember the opening being different sometimes. It SEEMS like I remember an opening of them driving down the road and Jethro is eating on a chicken leg while he is driving, and the road looks much more like a COUNTRY road than Beverlly Hills. Also another funny thing, the opening in the color episode is different than in the b and w. In the color opening for one thing, Granny is wearing her hat when she is in her rocking chair on the truck and there is NO deer in front of the cabin, but in the b and w opening she is not wearing her hat and there is a deer in front of the cabin. And in the color episodes when Jed runs in to tell Granny, it's different than in the b and w. |

Look for them next time, they are defintly there. Also in the color opening, Jethro is NOT wearing his hat as they drive off, whereas in the b & w opening he IS. When it went to color, I think they redid and updated the opening to match the way they looked in the color episodes. In the b&w opening when Jed runs in to get Granny, it is the scene from the pilot where he runs in to tell her about Jethro and Pearl getting ready to run into the cabin with the truck. And they don't run out the door, they stop at the window. BUT in the color opening he runs in and Granny looks more excited and they both run out the door. |

There WAS an unaired pilot, The Hillbillies Of Beverly Hills which is included on the M.P.I. Ultimate Collection Vol. 1. It basically is the first aired episode, with extra footage.

I think maybe you are thinking about the 1990's movie, ppl were flipping them the middle finger and they thought it was a way to say "hello" in Ca. But you know what's weird is I DO seem to remember them traveling more, so when I first saw the pilot I was expecting it to deal with their trip, but nothing about it. And I may have mentioned it, but it seems like there was an old b&w opening where it shows them driving down the rode it's differnet han what we usually see, I remember Jethro was eating something while he was driving like a chicken leg or SOMETHING. |
