Default Facts of Life Topic Never Talked About?

So i was watching the Facts of Life on youtube and realized they never did a storyline where a girl got her period for the first time. When I think of that topic I picture them giving the problem to Tootie and Jo would be the one to help her through it.

Maybe I'll write a fanfiction about it....

The title of this thread is not correct. The answers would be endless. I don't remember any discussions of the Dave Clark Five, for example...

PS: I think MRS. G would be the one guiding TOOTIE (not JO) and if i had to pick one of the girls it d be BLAIR: she s always been protective & like a big sister to TOOTIE.......

That's right!!! Doesn't anyone remember anymore that the Dave Clark Five were the biggest competition to The Beatles in Britain?? THAT should have made a decent topic!!! Might fit in with a storyline on something like "62 Pickup". More relevant to that era.

Btw, why didn't the episodes discuss girls' first commas, semi-colons, or exclamation marks?? --& don't forget the ampersand!!!!

Although I understand that this message is not supposed to serious, I feel a need to comment anyway. The Dave Clark Five were only modestly successful in Britain. However, they were huge in America, and were the second most popular musical act in the USA in 1964. The Dave Clark Five were totally unknown in the USA in 1962, and in fact so were the Beatles.

Other than slightly covering it in the first episode of FOL, they never did anything with a gay character. Like having the girls befriend someone who was gay and not just rumored to be lol. I think that would have been interesting. There are a lot of topics I think of that this show could have dealt with and didn't. Although, not a ton...FOL did cover a lot for its time.

Well, to answer the question, I think that by the time the networks MIGHT have been comfortable enough to let the show talk about this topic, during the later 80's, the girls were all well past the point of this being relevant, being in their late teens and early 20's.

Well, they technically did talk about it in the first season already, so they could have thrown something about it in the third or fourth season or something.

Actually thinking about it, it might have been even more relevant once the girls were older, like the last couple of seasons.

I think the poster was talking about the period thing being relevant. About the gay topic...that should have been there too.

But this an interesting topic; what else could FOL have covered?

Me, I'm still wondering about the handcuffs

Ah okay, that makes sense. Yeah if they did a period episode, it would have had to be Tootie lol.

And haha the handcuffs! Yes, I would like to know about that, too. You'd think they'd be Jo's since she used handcuffs in the 3,2,1 episode lol

Yes, I was referencing the "period" topic, thanks.

I know many disagree, but I think originally Jo was supposed to be a lesbian, but NBC forced the producers to make her heterosexual. I also remember an episode where Mrs. Garrett had a male friend that Blair, Natalie, and Tootie thought was going to propose to her but he said "marriage isn't my thing." It seems to me he was supposed to be gay. Interestingly, Jo was not nearly as concerned as the others.

Haha I've never thought about that episode before, but that could be.

I don't get offended by that idea--I kind of agree. I feel like if this show was made today, she probably would have been made a lesbian or bi or something. I don't really get why people get offended by the idea.

I think the OP meant to say was "If a girl got her period for the first time", he is referring to "menstruation".

Half of the show's run predated a tampon commercial in 1985 where actress Courteney Cox used the term "period" when referring to menstruation.

(I can't believe I'm even thinking about menstruation or tampons in this thread.)
