Movie Reviews: Run for Your Wife
Some writers are making the case that the British comedy Run for Your Wife, written by and starring comedian Ray Cooney, may be “the worst film ever.” It is certainly among the worst reviewed. The film opened in the U.K. last weekend where it earned about $900,000 on nine screens between Thursday and Sunday from ticket buyers who were apparently undeterred by devastating reviews by British critics. David Edwards wrote in the Daily Record that it was: “as funny as leprosy.” Commented Anthony Quinn in the London Independent: “Perhaps never in the field of light entertainment have so many actors sacrificed so much dignity in the cause of so few jokes.” Peter Thornton in the Guardian called it “stunningly unfunny.” He said that after watching it, he was left with “an overwhelming desire to buy an old-fashioned town-gas cooking appliance in which one’s head will fit snugly.” Christ Tookey in the Daily Mail, noting that Run for Your Wife had a long run on the stage beginning in 1983 said that the movie: “will leave you in a state of appalled amazement.” -IMDB News |
