Default So what does Iola plan on doing......

I know it's just a ficticious show and prolly not meant to look into it this deeply and that far ahead...BUT.....

I always wondered what Iola plans on doing after her parents pass away. She is in her 40s doesn't work *and I assume never has* and is totally supported by her parents, so what will she do when they die?

I know her parents could leave her with something but it will run out eventually, and she will have to keep paying utilities, electric, land taxes and things like that.

For some reason I think she will wanna move in with Mama, which Mama will prlly allow her to for a while, but I think Mama will kick her out after putting up with her for about a week.

Iola is pretty good with making stuff. Maybe she could start an online business(or are you talking about Iola now or before the internet?), but then again, none of her crafts sold at the Harper's yard sale.

Oh well, maybe Lars Johannsen will come back into her life and sweep her off her feet.

I think Mama would get tired of supporting her, Mama's only means of income was her SS check, that with Vint's and Naomi's rent, which I assume they will be gone, and I think Naomi would not like having to keep her up.

I know there were a lot of older shows that portrayed women as not working and living at home WELL into their 40s and 50s, and it always made me wonder what they would do if they were ever left on their own.

I also wonder why they don't get looked down upon, if it were Vinton not working and living with Mama and doing NOTHING, he would be looked at as a bum, free-loader, It's a double standard that isn't right.
I mean what made Iola any better not to have to work than Fran and Naomi?

Interesting to think about. I have an "Iola" type who lives a few doors down. I would presume that Iola would live like my neighbor. Still in the family house, an impeccable housekeeper, and taken care of because her dad invested well. I would presume she would do a lot of volunteer work and maybe get a part-time job.

I too think that she would move in with Mama after selling the family home. That would give her some income.. But I think that there would be many arguments. Especially in the kitchen! I wonder if Vint and Naomi had moved out for good when they bought the motor home? Let's see...... Baby Tiffany Thelma would be in her early 20's by now. I'm sure that her parents finally found a decent home. At least I hope so! Mama would be around 90 by now. Iola would be in her 60's. Iola would be a great help to Thelma in her golden years. Yes, I can picture them as "Roomies".

It would be neat if we could devise some faux family history since 1990. From the rudimentary math I've figured just from all the episodes I've watched, Mama would be around 92 or 93 now (she once said she was 63 when she learned to drive, and that was in 1984). Buzz and Sonya would be in their mid-40s, with Bubba a few years behind (if he graduated high school in 1988 and was 18 at the time, he'd be 43 now). Tiffany Thelma would be 23.
Iola would be in her 60s by now, and I am guessing her parents wouldn't be around anymore.
Did Eunice and Ed ever return to Raytown? What about Ellen? Just food for fun thought!

Mama cares about Iola more than she lets on. I think they could lean on each other. Sure, there would be some disagreements, but if Mama could put up with Vint and Naomi for all those years, she could deal with living with Iola.
