Sad First Look at J.R.'s Funeral

Keck's Exclusives First Look: "Dallas" Lays J.R. to Rest
Feb 18, 2013
by William Keck

You have to give Deborah Shelton credit for being honest about her reaction to "Dallas" star Larry Hagman's death last November. "Selfishly," says Shelton, 1970's Miss USA, who played J.R.'s mistress Mandy from 1984 to 1987, "I thought, 'Well, there goes my chance of ever getting back on Dallas.'"

She was wrong.

Hagman's passing proved to be a ticket back to Texas for many familiar faces. Joining series regulars Linda Gray (Sue Ellen) and Patrick Duffy (Bobby) and recurring players Ken Kercheval (Cliff), Charlene Tilton (Lucy) and Steve Kanaly (Ray) for J.R.'s drama-filled March 11 funeral are Ted Shackelford (Gary), Shelton and Cathy Podewell (J.R.'s former child bride, Cally).

The memorial is anything but staid. Cliff causes a scene and Sue Ellen travels down a potentially dangerous path with ex-brother-in-law Gary.

For Podewell, the reunion was worth the trip: "The only thing that could make it perfect would be if Larry were here with us."

I am so glad that Gary is back!!! Val is coming back too! She will appear in one episode and she does not like Gary getting too close to Sue Ellen. I'm looking forward to Lucy interacting with Val again. Of course, Lucy has got to have some interaction with her father Gary.

I'm looking forward to seeing Steve Kanaly. He was one of my favorites, just a good ol' boy.

If Gary's there, then technically, Bobby should be dead too.

Think about it.

When the season eight got erased, Bobby and the gang carried on like nothing was wrong. Gary was in that mix too. I am glad that EP of the show is not taking into consideration that Bobby died in Knots Landing world.

Technically, Abby telling Gary that Bobby died is also apart of Pam's dream. Think about that.

Knots Landing never erased season eight, so I guess Dallas and Knots were on different timelines from season eight onward.

One of Gary and Val's twins was named Bobby in honor of him. I think it would be funny if they made a tongue-in-cheek reference to season eight somehow.

Some part of season eight could be erased or tweeked. They have done it on daytime soaps many of times. It can be worked out.

It would not surprise me if Cynthia Cidre (EP of Dallas) made a wink reference in the upcoming episodes.
