Default Have you had a bad experience on Craigslist?

I have had a couple. I put an ad on there once in the dating section. Heard from a girl that sounded too perfect to be true. She was 5 years younger than me. very attractive, single non smoker, non drinker and a great job and did all of the things I loved to do. We talked on the phone for a couple of weeks and got to know eachother. I really started falling for this girl. We decided to go out on a friendship date and see where it would take us. I took her to dinner and to see a movie and we went driving in my car. She was so smart and seemed so down to earth, I couldn't help but like her. She even insisted on paying for the movie, but I just wanted too myself. When I took her back to her house, which she owned BTW, I walked her to the door, and it seemed we were going to kiss goodnight, but she just smiled and said call me tomorrow. I thought she was just interested only in a friendship with me and was ready to accept that. But she called me up one night and asked me if I would like to stay the night with her, that she thought I was a guy she could love. She was very attractive so I said yes, excitedly of course. Then she lays this bomb on me. "I am sorry but here is something you need to know about me first. I have Herpes" I was like OMG!!! I distinctly said in my ad that I was disease free and wanted to same. She told me that she had not had an outbreak recently but it still could happen. She was in tears when she was telling me this, saying you are so perfect for me and I want to be with you, but it is what it is" I couldn't. I just couldn't take that chance with her. It did hurt her badly when I said that to her. I was hoping we would remain friends, but she just got angry and called me a few cuss words and I never heard from her again. I have had other bad experiences on CL. I don't know if this was a good one or bad one with her, but I know I did have a great time with her. So it was mostly good I could say. I really did want to stay her friend.

I wouldn't trust Craig's List for anything. As far as the girl goes if you really like her having herpes shouldn't be that much of an issue. You go in knowing you'll never be able to have unprotected sex with her if you're still fine with it then there is your answer.

Oh No

I had bad experience with putting stuff up on craigslist. That's what made 2009 and 2010 a living nightmare for me...long story....

When it comes to buying and selling household items; I've had terrific success with craigslist.

When I've placed job ads for work, I've had a huge response, but probably a quarter of them were unqualified nutjobs. I've gotten some spam through craigslist, but the vast majority went straight to my spam folder.

I can't comment on the personal side since I'm coming up on my 20th wedding anniversary and haven't been in the dating pool since the very early 90s.

Eek!

That is the reason that I always insist on cash only! Never had an issue.

There does seem to me more spam in 2013 than it was 5 years ago. But if u post an ad with your picture then that will increase your chances of getting a real message

I thinkcomedyfreak's advice/opinion is great. I wouldn't be so quick to write this girl off. She has a lot of CHARACTER, she cared enough about you to tell the truth; she could have kept her mouth shut. She could have told you in a better way though.

The fact is she made herself vulnerable to you and you hurt her. Not that you meant to, but you freaked out. I would try to call her and apologize, maybe bring her some flowers, and ask if you could take it slow with her . Tell her YOU REALLY LIKE her but need time to adjust. If you don't think you can adjust to it then don't call her of course.

But 1 in 6 people age 14-49 have herpes so you may have slept with someone whose had it already. If she's asymptomatic your chances are quite slim of getting it if you both use protection.

As for C.L. in general I don't trust it. Rather do things the old-Fashioned way: face to face.

The only time I've ever used Craigslist is at work. We really needed to hire someone and the university websites were not bringing in any candidates. We did need to weed out a lot of resumes, but we finally found someone.
