Default Could Melissa McCarthy's movie success doom "Mike & Molly"?

http://www.newsday.com/entertainment...olly-1.4619949

Her big $37 million "Identity Theft" weekend begs the question: "How much longer will she be on TV?"

You've raised a good point. Even though Melissa McCarthy has had success and Emmys with Mike & Molly, she has also found her niche in movies. What direction will her career go toward? It all depends on her decision when her Mike & Molly contract expires or if she decides to leave or end the show to concentrate on her growing movie career. If she does leave the show and it continues, it would be a big mistake and a major shark jump.

I don't think she's going to leave anytime soon.

Probably, that's why Fresh Prince ended, because Will was becoming a big movie star which we all know is much bigger than a sitcom

Watching a Melissa McCarthy-less show called Mike would be pretty depressing.

Pretty sure the show would end if she went the film route

That's the most likely scenario, sure, but let's say that she left and the show continued anyway. Possible new titles for the show could include.

Mike Without Molly
Mike Hates Molly
Mike & Carl (in the wake of Molly leaving Mike, he and Carl move in together and two zany bachelors share an apartment.)

If the actress who plays Molly leaves, then there would be no use for Swoozie Kurtz, Katy Mixon or the dude that plays Vince. These are the three characters that I like the most, do away with them and I will more or less stop watching the show.

Besides, If the show has high ratings, CBS will pay the sky to keep the show on.

Even though she's got a happening movie career, I think McCarthy would be foolish to leave the show. She should stay with it until the end. She can always do movies during the hiatuses.

It's very unlikely the show would move on without her. I don't know how she feels about the show and how much longer she would be willing to do it. But the fact is the ratings have been falling for awhile now and CBS is the kind of network that cancels shows that are doing alright.

I think the show's creators made a big mistake in changing the Molly character to reflect Melissa McCarthy's big screen gross out comedy characters.

The show worked very well because of the way her character was written and the chemistry between her & Billy Gardell and the rest of the cast.

The show was doing fine, but apparently the producers saw fit to "fix" it anyway and it jumped the shark/boned the fish this season with the "new" Mike & Molly.

If this show is cancelled, the blame falls squarely on Chuck Lorre & his producers/writers.

The season was bad for the most part, but I really enjoyed the last two episodes. They felt like earlier episodes and the entire cast was used. I hope they continue to go down that route next season.

It sure hasn't helped the ratings any if that's what they wanted.

I honestly think her movie career hasn't been that impressive - she was great as a supporting character in Bridesmaids, but her over-the-top characters are too one-dimensional and don't really work as a main lead character for the most part; it just wears thin having her act goofy for an entire movie. It's starting to seem like she is just making the same movie over and over again, just plug-in a different co-star and silly premise. I think she would be better off picking better parts and not worrying so much about being the star and the girl of the moment. We know that she can act and be funny, she just doesn't need to try so hard and beat us over the head with it.

I think she should stay with M&M, and the show worked better before they "fixed" it.
