Default A Solution For The Editing of Shows?

Hey Guys,

You know Nick/TV Land always have this miserable excuse that they have to edit the crap out of their shows so that more "commercial air time" can be sold. So I was thinking, if the average 50's-80's sitcom loses 2-4 minutes because of this why not just start the show a couple minutes earlier so that missing scenes could be restored? Yea, it would be confusing a bit to have a sitcom start a few minutes before the hour or half hour but if they could do that to bring back lost footage at least we could get shows restored to the original broadcast length and they could still keep the damn commercials so that way, stations wouldn't lose ad revenue. Something HAS to be done about this or we are never going to see these shows in their original broadcast length again!

I was just thinking they could start charging more for ad time.

My idea would be for the advertisers to place the names of their products (McDonald's, Walgreens, etc.) in a black bar at the bottom of the screen, possibly with a phrase ("Have you had your break today?", etc.), kind of like TNN does (at least during "The Waltons"). Then the shows can be shown in their entirety, perhaps even without commercial interruption!

As long as it was small enough. I was watching the Bud Shootout on TNT today, and they kept popping up these HUGE ads right on top of the race! That was annoying!!

TBS used to start all its shows at :05 and :35 after the hours.
Also I do think you will see alot of product placements more and more in tv shows in the future. Back in the 80s they would hardly even show real products if they were eating or drinking something, now everything is so commercialized its kinda annoying.

Uh, do you realize if you start the 9:00 show at 8:57 then you're chopping three minutes out of the 8:30 show's time slot? And no, you can't start the 8:30 show at 8:27 (or 8:24) because then you'd be taking three (or six) minutes from the 8:00 show's slot.

I remember when TBS used to do that...we never really knew why they did that, but my theory at the time was that, in TV Guide magazine, it would give TBS's listings their own spot, easilly distinguishable from other shows (at the time, cable was becoming more widespread, and most TV Guides had many, many channels listed during each time...so I figured TBS did that to have their own little easy to find TV Guide spot...I don't know if that's true or not...

However, I have the solution which I think will work for everyone...Just expand the show times to, maybe, 45 minutes or so...then, stations could broadcast the entire original show, and still have room for lots of commercials, even MORE than they have now...of course, as viewers, all we'd have to do is tape the shows, and then watch them later while fast forwarding through the commercials (like I do a lot anyway)....that way, the networks could put in all the commercials they want, but we as viewers wouldn't have to sit through them

Anyone who has watched Nick at Nite know that this happens, Just last night I was watching Family Ties and it didn't start until at least 1:05, then the second episode didnt end until like 2:10, which is very annoying when you try to record things with a Tivo.
