The coroner’s office has identified a “Jane Doe” nearly 21 years after her body was found near an Austintown truck stop. Joseph S. Ohr, Mahoning County Deputy Coroner, formally identified Sharon Lynn Kedzierski, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., as the unidentified homicide victim from a cold case that originated in Austintown in 1992. A Sunday news release from Ohr said DNA analysis has confirmed Kedzierski as the murder victim. On April 9, 1992, the wife of a truck driver found the body while she was walking her dog near a wooded area at a truckstop along Interstate 80 and state Route 46 in the township. Police said the woman found a partially nude female near the Universal Truck Mall parking lot. According to Vindicator archives, authorities said the body did not have any identification. Kedzierski’s death was among eight others that occurred at or near interstate truck stops in Ohio between 1985 and 1992. Police said she was “definitely” killed elsewhere, while her body appeared to have been at the truck stop for nearly 24 to 48 hours. Her case was under investigation by the Interstate Homicide Task Force, which was formed to investigate the deaths of the other women, according to Vindicator archives. Police said Kedzierski appeared to be a prostitute, as were the other women who were found dead. The cases had been profiled on NBC’s “Unsolved Mysteries” and the syndicated “Geraldo” talk show. An autopsy determined she died of blunt-force injuries to the head, the release said. The statement also said that Kedzierski last had contact with her family in October 1989, when she was 43 years old. More than 20 years later, her daughters submitted their DNA to National Missing Persons System, a repository, which offers free DNA analysis for family members with missing loved ones. |
