This is a relatively new series that started airing on MSNBC late last year. I know how some people feel about MSNBC, but they do air some pretty interesting programming on the weekends (another one is City in Fear, hosted by John Siegenthaller. I think I met his son btw). I recorded this a little while ago and just watched it yesterday. http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/g/gosch_john.html
There was some pretty interesting things about this case I had never known before. -In 1985, 3 years after his disappearance, a woman claimed she obtained a $1 bill with the words "I am Alive Johnny Gosch" written on it. She contacted John Gosch Sr. and told him about it. John sent the lady a $1 bill to her and she mailed the one with the writing to him. -The possible connection to Eugene Martin was brought up. I had long wondered whether Marc Allen was possibly connected to this case also, and his name was also mentioned. http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/...in_eugene.html http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/a/allen_marc.html -Noreen had a pretty hard knock life. Her first husband died of cancer at an early age. A few weeks prior to that, their home was destroyed in a tornado and they lost everything. -Strangely, they showed 2 composite sketches of a possible abductor, one of which was the infamous sketch of Michaela Garecht's abductor, said sketch having been done at least 7 years AFTER Gosch's abudction. I have never heard of the Des Moines paperboys abductions being linked to Garecht's and the similar ones in California during that time, but the program sort of implied it. Also, contrary to what the show said, Gosch and Martin were not the first children to appear on the side of a milk carton. That distinction belongs to Etan Patz. Also showed clips of Noreen on the Joan Rivers show, who looked positively horrified when Noreen spoke about the events. |

The special I saw mentioned (Contrary to the Charley Project and other accounts I have read) that actual witnesses saw him being followed and tossed into a car after refusing to the give the driver directions. I really want to know if this story has been verified. I think Noreen is a great lady for working so hard and never giving up, but I really don't think the Johnny coming to the door event happened. Would she really have just let him leave? The guy who claimed he helped kidnap Johnny was interesting, but I really wish there was more evidence. Also for the other missing boys. |

Good point. Yeah, there were as many as FIVE witnesses, which was pretty shocking to me.

I love dogs and I'm sure Gretchen was a great dog. It's too bad though she couldn't have defended Johnny though.

I just watched another episode on this case, it was Vanished with Beth Holloway. Had some more things I was unaware of.
-Johnny had met up with 2 other paper carriers when they were approached by the abductor, who had driven up to them. Johnny said something to the effect of 'this guy is creepy, i'm getting out of here.' to the other paper carriers and proceeded to walk away. -a woman in Oklahoma claims someone identifying himself as Johnny Gosch approached her as she was coming out of a store and asked for help, but was whisked off by two men shortly thereafter. -the adbuctor had somehow gotten pictures of Johnny before the abduction and singled him out. -Paul Bonacci, who was an early victim who said he was forced to assist in the abduction of Johnny, said many of the victims in the Colorado compound escaped, including Johnny. -John Gosch repeated the same incorrect statement of Johnny being the first child to be on a milk carton. Etan Patz was actually the first. |

Well, I guess I should say, MSNBC *used to* have good weekend programming. Now it's become all day, all night marathons of Lockup and the tru tv-esque Caught on Camera. What happened to Maximum Drama, City in Fear, to Catch a Predator and shows like that?
