"The Office" Will Be Getting One-Hour Series Finale
Update: "The Office" Getting One-Hour Send-Off, NBC Boss Doubtful Steve Carell Will Return
by Michael Ausiello 1/6/13 "The Office" will close its doors this May with a special one-hour farewell, but it’ll likely do so without Steve Carell’s original boss, Michael Scott. “I’m hopeful, but I don’t think Steve will be back,” NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt told reporters Sunday the the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena. “He left in the way that he wanted that character to leave.” “There’s maybe a little hail mary pass on a cameo,” he added, “but I think the decision is that he doesn't want to compromise his original exit.” Last month, exec producer Greg Daniels told TVLine that he had “some cool story ideas” that would bring Michael back into the fold, “but we’re still not 100 percent sure Steve will want to participate.” Meanwhile, although an exact air date for the finale has not been locked down, the buzz is that it will be broadcast on Thursday, May 9. http://tvline.com/2013/01/06/the-off...-steve-carell/ |

I'd love to see Steve Carell participate in the finale, but if he won't do it, there's nothing they can do about it. I stopped watching the show when he left. I think it became a bungled mess without him.

Awww, I wish he would at least make a small appearance...
You are right. The show was never the same once Michael left. It almost became a different show entirely.

I am in the minority and enjoyed the eighth season and even this season, because it was more of an ensamble and not "The Steve Carell Show". The show to me is about the different characters.
If I were Carell, I would do the finale as an easy paycheck and find out what happened to the man, and would like to see him married with Holly and a baby and a successful job doing something above his capacity. Very sad that they did not go with the Shrute Farms Show because it could have worked. I would have made it into a Fawlty Towers like show and have Angela Kinsey play the wife. Dwight has a lot in common with Basil Fawlty, both, stupid, arrogant guys who think that they are brilliant and competant, and I think Angela would have made an excellent Frau of a wife.I think one problem would have been to have a "straight man" like Jim Halpert to bounce off of. I think truthfully that the story was probably a bit limited, but it could have been done well and again, be a cross of Fawlty Towers and Green Acres. Will be a sad day when the show goes off because I have really enjoyed the whole run except the Charles Minor storyline. |
