Default 20 years ago; Family Feud Hits the BULLSEYE; Good Decision or Bad Decision?

Well guys, here's another interesting question for all of you:

Now, we talked about the Star Wheel on Match Game, but now, I want to talk about something else:

The Family Feud's Bullseye Game from the Ray Combs Era

20 years ago when Ray Combs was still hosting Family Feud, the people at Mark Goodson Productions decided to expand CBS' Daytime version to an hour w/The Family Feud Challenge and on the Afternoon SYN version they changed it to The NEW Family Feud, and they also decided to introduce the BULLSEYE Game and on the 1st half on the FFC families can win up to $10,000 in cash, and on the 2nd half and on the SYN version Families can win up to $20,000 in cash, but on the SYN version they dimmed the lights for the Bullseye Game

The 1st Half had questions worth $500, $1000, $1500, $2000 & $2500 while the 2nd Half and the syndicated version had questions worth double the amount from $1000, $2000, $3000, $4000 & $5000

also when Richard Dawson returned to host the Feud after a 9 year absense, they changed the BULLSEYE Game to the Bankrole Game, and the reason was b/c Dawson said in an interview on the E! True Hollywood Story that he did not like the BULLSEYE Game and so that's why they changed it to the Bankrole Game

However, the Bullseye Game would return 15 years later on Family Feud during John O'Hurley's Final Season during the 2009-2010 Season and they started with $15,000 and they could build their bank up to $30,000

Gametek also released a NEW Family Feud on Super NES, Sega Genesis & PC Featuring the Bullseye Game and the voice of Combs while the PC Game Features the Bullseye Game and a different host

and so, my question to you all is this:

Do you think that the BULLSEYE Game was the reason for Family Feud's ratings to drop and what about the Bankrole Game?

and also, what were your thoughts on Richard Dawson saying that he did not like the BULLSEYE Game and why did Family Feud leave CBS?

But also, what were your thoughts on Family Feud bringing back the BULLSEYE Game during the Final Season of the John O'Hurley Era?

That's the Question!

Please Debate on this

I thought adding the Bullseye Game ruined a very viable format which has been successful for many years. To me, the reason for the ratings drop on the CBS version was that a large number of stations (including Minneapolis) did not carry the show due to syndicated programming. As for the syndicated version, the ratings probably dropped because of competition from talk shows as well as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Not to mention Entertainment Tonight, but most local stations carried it in the afternoons, but also, after the death of Mark Goodson, the ratings began to drop and that's when CBS dropped the show and on syndication, it just wasn't the same Feud, but also, when Jonathan Goodson Fired Combs, that's when Dawson came back to the Feud and the ratings picked-up, but it was cancelled due to the O.J. Simpson Trial which is another topic at another time

hate to go "off-topic" here but

what about the first to "400" points rule?
read about it here if you don't know what I'm talking about:http://www.gameshowgarbage.com/ind080_feud400point.html

or the "lollipop Tree" where if you find the one with a "black steam" you get
"$100"?

or if you wan't to go current-style how about the "one-strike" rule in round 4 (a.k.a Triple Round) use in Louie Anderson/Richard Karn eras from
(1999-2003)?

During the Ray Combs era, when I was a kid watching the Bullseye-era eps., I enjoyed it b/c it allowed someone to win more money and they allowed families to stay around longer to win even more money.

But looking back at it now as an adult, I do agree that while $5,000 in daytime was pretty dinky by 1992, 1993 standards I could see where they wanted to update the stakes. And while I liked Bullseye during this era, it did take away some actualy Feud Round playing time and it slowed the pace of the show down at times and made the actual Feud rounds feel more rushed.

Then during some of those celebrity special weeks, if you had players that were dumber than a box of rocks, it made the game feel even more awkward.

During O'Hurley's final season, I thought it was executed better because of the better structure they had setup for the actual Feud Rounds. Single, Double, Triple and then Sudden-Death Triple Round even though I disliked the pre-taped video interviews that happened before the start of the game.

I guess that also explains the Bankroll game as well during Richard Dawson's short-lived era in 1994-1995.

also, I wish O'Hurley stayed for at least one more season just to beat Richard Karn's record but, oh well.I kind of like his personality which was very classy and had charm that was very similiar to Dawson.

I thought the addition of the "Bullseye Round" to "Feud" during the last two years of Ray Combs' tenure (1992-94) was a disastrous idea. I disliked it immensely.

I dont remember too much about the Bullseye Round. I guess it was ok. Although usually when you tinker with a show, tv or game show or even soap opera, that means something is wrong. And I thought, at the time, the Ray Combs era was good. I mean didnt everybody like Ray Combs?? I did.

Richard Dawson was Family Fued and there was no replacing the guy.

Ray Combes I really feel for, this guy was an "up and comer" and I honestly think that Family Fued royally screwed up his career, turned him into a "Game Show Host", and he was stuck doing D list garbage after being fired from Family Fued, got seperated from his wife he was with since high school, his comedy clubs failed and he ran out of money, which was difficult supporting six kids, so he went nuts and killed himself.

Did not need a change of format. It is still on today.
