Default The Engagement

In the pilot episode "The Engagement" do you think it was right for Dorothy to cover Rose's mouth? Also, what do you think it was like for Rose having Dorothy's hand over her mouth?

Funny it was accepted in those days and appeared on the opening credits of every episode. In retrospect it does appear strange, along with pushing her into the cupboard.

I always thought it was strange that Dorothy pushes her in the closet (cupboard) and then locks it. What closet has a lock on the outside of the door? The only reason would be to lock someone inside, but won't keep anybody out. Odd.

Lol good first episode :)

I actually really like the pilot episode and think that the script accurately portrays each persons characteristics that are so prominent throughout the seasons (especially Dorothy: rough round the edges, quick tempered and feisty) it's almost like we get to know them completely within this episode. Plus its just hilarious! LOL

Blanche: "Oh Sophia honey it's so great to see you again!"
Sophia: "Who are you?"
Blanche: "It's me Blanche."
Sophia: "You look like a prostitute!"
Blanche: (shocked face)
Rose: "Sophia the things you say, Blanche she didn't mean that."
Sophia: "Are you kidding? Oh course I meant it. Look at her, my cab driver would fall in love."

Rose: I've heard of people having strokes, but they still remain lady like.

I never thought that it was wrong that Dorothy put her hand over Rose's mouth because she did it in an effort to keep her quiet so not to ruin Blanche's happiness on her big day. The same with locking her in the closet, (of course thinking about it now, seems wrong that she did that) however, once again she didn't want Rose to spoil things with her "crazy hunch" as Dorothy called it.

I haven't seen many, but when I was a kid my parents had a lock on their closet door. The keyhole was on the doorknob and it could locked from the outside. They often did that to keep my brother and I (particularly me) from going into their closet.
