Default Wonder why this show is so appealing all of a sudden in 2012 or was

the show always appealing just that it didn't get a fair chance to grab viewers on cable?? Good to see the show finally get some exposure after bombing on Nick@Nite and TV Land.

Now wonder will this successful run lead to a DVD release of season 2?

Thumbs up

I hope it will get further releases on DVD. It's been kind of a bonding experience for my mom and I because she watched it when it was originally on (I was born the year after the show ceased production).

I should think Golden Girls fans would like it because of the many scenes between Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan. Diff'rent Strokes fans would get a kick out of seeing Conrad Bain before he played Mr. Drummond.

Plus, the theme song performed by the late Donny Hathaway just rocks. "Right on, Maude" indeed!!!!

Yeah, from what I heard, a lot of guys back then had crushes on Adrienne Barbeau. Years later, she played Oswald's mom on The Drew Carey Show. In real life, she gave birth to twins at the age of 50!!!!

One of the great shows of the '70's. I never understood why the show wasn't popular in syndication especially when AITF was. I guess maybe Maude wasn't as likeable as Archie but I thought she was a hoot.

I'm impressed by the current run on Antenna TV which will soon be 2 years. Maude has a found a new life in the world of DIGITAL TV

Damm shame that Antenna TV wasn't created until 8 years after we joined this site

Think about all the fun discussion we would have had over the years

I'm just starting to really get into it. (I am also a big Golden Girls, All in the Family, and Diff'rent Strokes fan.)

I have to say, it's a great show!! Bea Arthur is just fabulous!!!

P.S., I LOVE the theme song!!! Even when I didn't watch this show, I would always stay tuned and turn up the theme song!! I love it!! So sad to hear about late Donny Hathaway. So much talent!!

For some strange reason, Norman Lear sold this show into syndication one season at a time beginning in 1979, which was odd in that any local markets that bought it only had enough episodes to run it on weekends until around 1982. That's when I started seeing it weekday afternoons. It really didn't have the momentum to build up a new fanbase like it would have had all the episodes been syndicated right away.

I don't think it bombed on TV Land. It may not have been as highly-rated as AITF but I remember there was a lot of excitement when that Maude-a-Thon debuted the show in August 1999.

As for the DVDs continuing, Shout Factory was considering it back in 2010 as they had many, many requests, but there are so many musical clearance problems that Sony doesn't think the potential sales would outweigh the clearance costs (all the talent show/telethon episodes as well as instances of characters singing a line or two from something like "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree"). All of these cost big bucks and Sony doesn't feel the sales would meet expectations.
