I think this is the Skipper Alan Hale Jr. in 1941, when he would be about 20 years old.
He's with the dashing Errol Flynn, whom his lookalike dad Alan Hale appeared with in 13 films. The senior Alan Hale and Errol Flynn worked together in Adventures of Robin Hood, Dawn Patrol, Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, Adventures of Don Juan, Prince and the Pauper, Dodge City, Santa Fe Trail, Virginia City, Footsteps in the Dark, Desperate Journey, Gentlemen Jim, Sea Hawk, and The Sisters. What do you think? |

Here's me chimming in. I'm not sure that is Alan. I have a pic on my site that I am pretty sure is him. At the grad. scene where Errol gets his diploma. He is standing to whom I believe is Alan( woukd make sense since Flynn was a family friend maybe he made sure Alan got screen time by standing next to Errol). then the grads are dismissed and in the crowd there is a grad smirking with the corner of his mouth turned up. Alan often hadthat smirk which makes me think its him. again he is behind Flynn who is talkint to anothergrad. i think itsabout 47 mins into the movie. wishi could postmy pic but im at work. Smilings i would love for u to email me. i wouldlove to know what alan stuffu have and i can tell u what i have.

edplattfan, you have a better eye than me. I will email you.
Dive Bomber is a beautiful and rare Technicolor war movie. This scene is at 46:15. Even a row back, Alan Hale's warm smile jumps out at you. BTW, there are 2 future sitcom stars in this photo. Sitcom fans, do you recognize the cadet on the left? It's Herb Anderson. From 1958 to 1963, he was Henry Mitchell, Dennis the Menace's dad. |
