Diners Called 'Fat Girls' On Check From Chilly D's Restaurant (VIDEO)

When three friends finished their meal at a California restaurant, they did not expect to be insulted on the bill.

That is exactly what happened to Christine Duran, Christina Huerta and Isabel Robles when they visited Chilly D's Sports Lounge, part of the Cameo Club Casino, in Stockton, Calif., according to ABC affiliate News 10. When the three diners got their check they saw "fat girls" written on their bill.

"I got the bill, and I was like, why does the receipt say, 'fat girls?'" Duran told News 10. At first, her friends didn't even believe her. "[Huerta] was like, 'You're lying,' And I was like, 'No, I'm serious. Look at it.' She was like, 'fat girls?'"

When their server returned, the three girls questioned him about the "fat girls" label, but the waiter denied any wrongdoing, according to News 10. He said an employee named "Jeff," whose name appears on the receipt, must have typed "fat girls" into the system to keep track of their bill.

A manager went over to explain the "fat girls" check, but he “had like a smirk on his face, like it was funny but trying not to laugh,” Duran told ABC News. Instead of clearing all charges, he offered a discount of 25 percent and then a discount of 50 percent, but the women rejected the offers.

On Saturday, Chilly D's posted an apology on its Facebook page over the insulting bill.
[...] I completely understand why they were hurt by what was written on their receipt and that type of treatment isn't tolerated. Also there will be no tolerance in the future, guaranteed. Everyone is welcome in our establishment, my family built this business so that the community of Stockton would have a safe and fun place to hang out and come together. My hope is to heal our newly tarnished reputation so that everyone feels safe and welcome again. And if these ladies would like to meet with my family and I, so that we can personally apologize, we would really like to do that, because we do not want anyone to have an experience like this.
Maggie Lewis, owner of Cameo Club Casino, also apologized and said such insulting treatment is “intolerable in our establishment," according to ABC News.

This is not the first time a receipt has affronted a paying customer.

A Maryland Radio Shack employee referred to a woman as an "ugly itch" from "tattooville" in "Ghettohood, USA" on a receipt in March. A Papa John's employee was fired in January after using the racial slur "lady chinky eyes" on a customer's receipt. In August 2010, Consumerist reported on a Domino's receipt with a racist remark typed at the bottom.

That's terrible. It's a shame that their meal experience had to be ruined like that. There was no need for the person to put that on their bill.

As long as it's not a racist or anti-religious comment, then I say lighten up. No real harm done and technically they ARE Fat Girls.

People just don't have any respect nowadays. Let's just hope this 'Jeff" doesn't ever have a relative or child someday with weight issues. It's strange how life works sometimes. When you don't learn a lesson the first time, they tend to reappear in different incarnations.

Almost as insulting as the comment was the manager offering a lousy 25% off their check. The restuarant should've ripped up the check and let them have the meals for free. That's the least they could've done.

I don't forsee a huge clientele at this restaurant now, since this story has been broadcast nationwide!!

really?

what if you were in a restaurant and your waiter wrote something on the receipt to describe a negative or judgmental attribute about you?

even if it said something like "ugly shirt guy" or "guy with big nose" or "stinky guy" - you wouldn't be offended?

its just not necessary - the server should know the tables by #, and if they don't they should be washing dishes or fired.

There is a reason this topic is in Chit-Chat. It's frivilous, unimportant and basic fodder for lively debate and energetic conversation. This would have actually been an ISSUE had the comment been either racist, racial or anti-religion of any kind in any way. But labeling a fat person "fat" is like saying grass is "green" or water is "wet." Do you ever read the newspaper? There are people with REAL problems all around us every day. This one isn't even a blip on the radar; and certainly nothing to even get "written up" over, much less fired. 25% was fair considering that fat people are referred to as "fat" about 100 times a day, each and every day.

its a matter of respect for your customers - the customer is ALWAYS right as they say in the restaurant business

- and "fat" is an arbitrary judgmental term with a negative connotation - who decides who is "fat" or "ugly" or "wimpy" ?

again, I ask - how would YOU react if you were in an establishment that you were paying for service, and expected to tip extra for good service, and the waiter called you "ugly" or say "stupid" to your face? or told you that you dressed like a douche-bag?

you can't treat customers like that in a service industry; that employee showed extremely poor judgement and embarrassed the entire restaurant and should be fired.

25% isn't even close to being fair over that type of mistreatment. The employee who put "Fat Girls" on the receipt is very lucky I'm not the manager. Not only would he have been immediately fired but the meal would've been on the house and deducted from his paycheck. I was in the restaurant business for over 20 years and you don't treat or disrespect your customers in that manner.

Are you kidding me? If you were gay, would you want the employee to write gay boy on your check? My freaking lord.

Haven't any of you heard the phrase "Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me."? Awww....somebody called the fat girl FAT. If that's her biggest problem all year, then she's doing better than most of us. If any one had made the effort to follow the story, they would have seen that the term "fat" was used strictly as a point of reference (meaning. yes, doggonit, the girls at table so & so are fat.) Why do I feel that skinny girls would not have made this big a deal out of something so frivilous and easily forgotten?

As a skinny girl who has been (NATURALLY!) skinny all my life, I got made fun of, too - and it hurt, especially into my teens.

The "sticks and stones" poem is one of the biggest misnomers in history. Names DO hurt - and they can haunt people for a long time.

I'm glad that you are superhuman and have never been hurt or called names before. It must make you feel very superior to us weaklings.
