Was this question ever addressed before ? Most of the time on Gilligan's Island, Mrs . Howell was called "Lovey" by Mr . Howell and "Mrs . Howell" by the other castaways . In one episode where the Howells were having marital problems, Mrs . Howell mentioned her maiden name was "Wentworth" . In the “Mr . and Mrs . ??” episode, a radio announcer said her name was "Eunice" . Cecil Adams on the "The Straight Dope" website claimed that her first name was "Lovey" ( http://www.straightdope.com/columns/...lls-first-name ), and a writer on the Snopes website claimed that her first name was "Eunice" ( http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/nonames.asp ) .
The Everything First Names Book claimed that "Lovey" is a legitimate first name . Sherwood Schwartz explained in Inside Gilligan's Island that somebody called him up early one morning and asked him what Mrs . Howell's first name was . He had a collection of scripts all bound, so he looked through them and explained that Mrs . Howell's first name was "Eunice" . NOW -- once and for all, what was Mrs . Howell's first name ? Which episode was the one where Mrs . Howell mentioned her maiden name was "Wentworth" ? Thank you in advance for your answers . |

Hey Prince, I don't know if her first name as Eunice was ever mentioned in the show, but in the ep "Mr. and Mrs????" she mentions her last name as Wentworth. It's the ep when the Howells find out the minister who married them
was not a real minister so Skipper marries them in the lagoon and she calls herself "Wentworth."

I don't remember ever hearing Eunice on the show, but I have seen it in lots of books, but never on the air. Edplattfan is right about the episode with Wentworth.

When I first heard Mr Howell use it, I thought it was a term of endearment.

It's Eunice. I think that others in society may have called her Lovey, but not positive.
