This thread is about prime-time sitcoms that aired Saturday nights. Most only have done so in certain seasons and even so, a given timeslot on a given night may not last the whole season out.
Examples of Saturday night sitcoms: The Partridge Family (1973-74) The Mary Tyler Moore Show (all seasons 1970-77) The Bob Newhart Show (1972) (all seasons 1972-78) Working Stiffs (1979-80) The Facts of Life (1985-88) M*A*S*H (1973-74) Mission: Impossible (1966-67 and 1970-December 9, 1972) Mannix (1967-72) All in the Family (September 1971-March 1975, November 1976-March 1977) The Love Boat (1977-86) Fantasy Island (1978-84) Hawaii Five-O (1968) (last few episodes in the final season of 1979-80, specifically the spring 1980 episodes) ~Ben |

I think a show has to gain a fan base before it's moved to Saturday Nights. It's stupid to put a new show on saturday night when the show hasn't had a chance to gain viewers

The Ropers was just a bad show and would have failed if it aired after TC |

Now-a-days, Saturday nights are re-runs or a place for a show to DIE!

It's odd to see that all of these successful sitcoms at one time or other aired on Saturday nights!! Today that's unheard of!!
It seems like they stopped doing this in the 80s-early 90s? |

I wouldn't use the Jeffersons as an example because it was connected to AITF so even though it was new viewers were still familiar with them. So it was no surprise that the show had success on a saturday night |

The final seasons of Who's the Boss, Growing Pains, and Perfect Strangers aired in a spinoff block of TGIF called "I Love Saturday Night" on ABC in 1992.
