Update 1:57 p.m.: According to police, Brent was heading westbound on the 1400 block of the service road of East State Highway 114 at a high rate of speed. His car “hit the outside curb,” flipped over and came to rest in the middle of the road.

Brent was responsive and talking to officers when police arrived, authorities said. Brown, the passenger, was unresponsive and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Brent was given a sobriety test and failed, according to police. He was taken to a hospital where his blood was drawn. He was then taken to the Irving City Jail and booked with a second degree felony charge.

It is not immediately clear what his blood alcohol content was.

Update 1:49 p.m.: Irving police have now confirmed that Josh Brent, nose tackle for the Cowboys, has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Jerry Brown, 25, is the person who died. Brown is listed as a linebacker on the team’s practice squad.

Update: An Irving police dispatcher confirmed that there was a fatality accident on State Highway 114 around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. She said no further information can be released at this point, pending notification of family.

Original: Multiple news outlets are reporting that a Dallas Cowboys player was involved in a fatal crash Saturday morning in Irving.

WFAA-TV is reporting that nose tackle Josh Brent has been arrested in the case. Details are limited thus far and Irving police officials have not returned phone calls seeking information. A fatal crash was reported at around 3 a.m. at 600 Cowboys Way. It is not immediately clear who was killed.

Sad story all around. I'll never understand why anyone will drive a car while drunk. Brent just ruined his life and career. My prayers go to Jerry Brown and his family. Someone posted at the Zone that he was going to be a Dad too. Very Sad.

At first glance, one might assume that the Jerry Brown who died is the Jerry Brown who currently governs California.

Do you honestly believe that anyone is going to confuse Jerry Brown, a 25 year old football player with the California Governor of the same name? If it were the latter who had died it would be the top story on every major news channel and website.

What a tragic story. My heart goes out to Jerry Brown's family, his teamates, and coaches. And I wouldn't want to be in Josh Brent's shoes right now. One bad decision and his whole life is changed as i[are the lives of Jerry Browns family.

It would be fitting if Josh Brent went to prison for years and years!!!!

People that drink and drive are either stupid or so selfish that they just dont care about anyone else!!!

And NFL players have a special program in place that allows them to call for a safe ride home when they've been drinking. Sadly few of them bother to usr it seems.
