The other day I saw the episode in which the Screaming Eagles lost 41-2 (sorry, I forget the opponent; the score was on the mini chalkboard at the Touchdown Club). AHH! It was the episode where Christine's mother Mildred came to visit! During a scene at the Touchdown Club, Mildred said she had lost a bridge (or some other card game that's NOT cribbage) game to the "Paducah County All Stars" pretty badly.
Unfortunately, there is no Paducah County. There is a city called Paducah in Kentucky, which lies directly south of Illinois on the Ohio River. Paducah, Kentucky, is the county seat of McCracken County. I used Kentucky since it has been said that Kentucky is where Christine was a weather person prior to "Coach" taking place. Was this "Paducah County" line a mistake, like they meant McCracken County All Stars? I'm sure more people have heard of Paducah than they've heard of McCracken County, which is not nearly as famous as some other counties like Orange County ("The OC"), California; Door County, Wisconsin; and Westchester County, New York. Or even Paducah City All Stars? (Of course, there's a Paducah, Texas, too, just southeast of the Panhandle, so that could complicate things a bit!) |

Christine herself was from Kentucky, and her folks still lived there. Their home was the site of Hayden and Christine's disasterous first attempt at a wedding, when she fell off the chandelier into the wedding cake!!!

I would guess that it wasn't a mistake -- the writers probably just made up a the name whose sound they liked...?
For that matter, there was no "West Texas" playing football at that time (to face the also fictional Minnesota State), though other actual universities were frequently mentioned (like Notre Dame). So sometimes it was a mix of real names (especially all of the many, many Johnny Unitas mentions) and fictional. |
